It seems to me that there's a link between one's outlook in life and one's politics. Let's see what if my thinking holds true for SciForum's members.

mad out of interest what do you expect the result to be?:p

PM me if you dont want to preduce the poll publically

When a huge chunk of the population thinks the earth is 6000 years old, a majority of the people don't vote, and people are more concerned with buying useless plastic crap than doing anything to better the world around them... I find it hard to be optimistic.

I'm a liberal and I'm a realist.
There's no "realist" option. Pick one!

Whenever someone says something like, "face reality, this is the situation.........." they're never talking about something good. I'd say "realist" is code for pessimist.

No, it's what a pessimist who doesn't want to come out of the closet calls himself.

PS RedArmy, who is your avatar? Is that you?

Let's see. Head in the clouds, head in the hands, or eyes scanning the horizon.. hmm.

Choices, choices.

Lets be all optimists here people, it is of our best interest to not be pessimistic about the realism of liberalistic pessimism even if it is a claim to be an optimism at its best.

On the one hand, a conservative is a bitter former liberal whose idealism was crushed and life taught him a lesson... but on the other hand, conservatives are happy with what they've got and don't want to change anything, whereas liberals are NOT happy, hence they want to change things.

I think liberals are not as happy as conservatives. They complain and preach all the time, going from one focusless ideology to another, seeking refuge and comfort in revolutionary ideology to "let's change everything!". George Carlin style nihilism.

I kind of agree with you here. Conservative people do seem to be happier than liberal people do, to me anyway. Conservatives may mourn the loss of certain values in society, but on a whole when they aren't mourning they like the way things are and seem to more concern about their own well being which I believe is the key to happiness, making yourself happy. As a liberal, I may be happy with my own life, but I constantly fret about other people and the injustices they face and I'm upsetting myself over something that isn't currently effecting me. I give money to charities even though I barley have any and I volunteer when I already have three jobs and an intership. I wear myself out. I don't know why I do this, its so tiring and hard on my body.

its real easy to be happy when you lack empathy for others

Thats a pretty damn big generalization.
