Concept of God's "Begotten Son" was lifted from Psalms 2:7
The phrase "only begotten son" appears a total 5 times in the KJV; three of those appear in the gospel of John (1:18, 3:16 and 3:18), and one appears in 1 John 4:9. The other occurance of this phrase can be found in Hebrews 11:17, which talks about Abraham offering up his only begotten son, Isaac, as a sacrifice to God.
But I believe the concept of God having an "only begotten son" was taken from Psalms 2:7, which was actually supposed to be King David talking about himself.
