Uh, it just snowed over here in Malibu. What next, snow gonna fall on Miami? WTF, stupid global warming, global cooling, or whatever the heck it is. This ain't California anymore!

just scaring yourself. Its all just a coincidence.I am in Norway and here it is January 18 and we have had no more than 8 days so far where we have had temps below freezing (it was the warmest december on record). We have had serious windstorms Galeforce in some places something like 8-9 times in the last 30 days, also extreme, and rain almostevery other day. Meanwhile friends from New Mexico have sent us pics of all the snow they've been getting. Although I do believe this has something to do with global warming one slightly mitigating factor is that El Nino is present in the pacific this year.
down here on the other side of the equator we're having one of the hottest summers ever, with brief interludes of heavy rain.
My wife just reported the same thing in Eureka. Our weather is famously mild, rarely above 72F/22C on summer days, rarely below 37F/3C on winter nights. But it's been down around 25F/-4C every night for a week now.
Like everything else in the Northern Hemisphere, oceans rotate clockwise due to the Coriolis Force. (Centrifugal force on an off-axis rotation.) The Atlantic Coast of North America is experiencing an unusually warm winter--65F/18C in Washington a couple of days ago, whereas in past years I've seen it snow on Thanksgiving.
Washington is on the left side of the rotating ocean, getting all that warm water from the tropics. I've seen it predicted that some areas will become colder in the Global Warming model because of ocean currents shifting as melting ice opens up new paths for the moving water. They're most likely to be the places on the right side of the rotating ocean where Arctic water is coming down.
Perhaps some glaciers have melted in Alaska, giving new bodies of water access to the ocean, and the Pacific Coast of North America is more icy water than it's used to.
I can report much the same as sockpuppetpath here in central Scotland. It's gone below zero a few times this winter and we've only had snow on low ground a couple of times this past week. Stormy weather seems to be the new in thing with mild temperatures.
The UK is meant to get the first proper cold snap of winter next week. Can't wait.
