Old West-style of justice.

Leaded hemlock

Or, as Socrates famously said, "I drank what?"

And everyone ends up blind.

The eye for an eye comment was more a commentary on the irony that he shot someone and chose death by being shot.

This will almost always lead to the accused being executed. Bad idea.

Let me clarify this as well. When there is an execution and the prisoner gets to decide in which way he is to be executed, I say let the family of the one who was murdered decide. If they wish.

He's lucky, as firing squad is better than lethal injection or the electric chair. I am not sure how I'd rank it against the gas chamber. If you are going to have executions in the first place (a separate question), what's wrong with a firing squad?

I like that idea.. why should the criminal be the one who gets to make the choice

I'd say we should suprise the inmate! One night go into his cage and kill him with something he doesn't know about, like a cobra or lion ! ;)

Nonsense. The perp ends up blind, but he should be anyway.

Justice is one of those things that it's okay to be harsh with; yes, an eye for an eye is harsh and primitive, perhaps, but it is also fair and to the point.
