True. That was my point. It would be wonderful if Sciforums participants had the ability to discuss current issues intelligently and dispassionately, without all the needless 'We're the Good Guys, you're the Bad Guys' bullshit.
It would be nice if participants could discuss current issues intelligently but dispassionately, I don’t think so. Humans are not automatons. They are emotional beings. And too often, mentioning unpleasant truths are perceived as a good guy bad guy issues. Sometime, the bad guy really is bad. And ignoring the “bad” is fiction, a deception, and worthy of disgust. I am a little tired of artificially balancing the scales just for appearances of balance. Fiction and deception are the nemesis of rational thought and behavior.
True You do seem to devote a large proportion of what you post to your hostility to Republicans and conservatives, and to how convinced you are that they suck. That makes me think that you've already chosen your allegiances and that you want everyone else to know how strong and solid they are. I perceive that as displaying your blue gang-colors.
I do hold the current manifestation of the Republican Party (i.e. conservatives) in low esteem. Because what they stand for is far from conservative. Look at the George Junior administration and tell me with a straight face there was anything conservative in that administration and congresses which were conservative? Tell me with a straight face that there is anything fiscally conservative about not paying the nations bills and sending it into a default as Tea Partiers have and continue to advocate? Explain to me how letting the nation fall into a deep depression is a fiscally conservative thing to do. Tell me how obstruction for the sake of political power alone and at the expense of the US government and the citizens thereof is a good thing. And that my friend is the genesis of my anger towards the Republican Party. Assuming I wear one color or another just because I disagree with most of one party’s actions and positions and agree with some of the other party’s positions, positions which more moderate and have a solid foundation in evidence and reason, it doesn’t mean I endorse the that party. Sometimes the bad guy really is bad and the good guy really is good. When we try to artificially balance the scales we deceive ourselves and others at our own peril.
Since the dawn of the Republican entertainment complex, both political parties have become more conservative. But the Republican Party has become more extreme, and more irrational, and more dependent on deception in order to maintain political power. At some point, Republican political power has trumped the public good. And yeah, that disgusts me. It even disgusted McCain’s senior political advisor, Steve Schmidt. But that by no means I am a Democrat. Democrats in the 70’s and 80’s were also guilty of nihilism and extremism which culminated in their loss of congress and the presidency in the late 80’s and 90’s.
