Toddler shot dead at Burger King

A TODDLER has been shot dead while eating lunch with his mother at a Burger King restaurant in the US.

The gunman was eating lunch in Pomona, California, when he suddenly stood up, approached the two-year-old boy and shot him in the head, said police Sergeant Joann Crabb.

The toddler, identified as Osvaldo Martinez, died later in hospital.

"It appeared to be unmotivated," Crabb said.

"Apparently it was totally unprovoked, from what witnesses were saying."


The gunman, who was not identified, and a friend fled the restaurant, Crabb said.

Officers located the pair near a phone booth about a block from the Burger King, where the gunman allegedly told police "shoot me, shoot me".

Crabb said at least one officer tried to use pepper spray to subdue the man, but he allegedly pulled a gun out of his pocket and pointed it at officers.

They opened fire and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The guy was trying to commit suicide. He wanted to die," said witness Leonard Counce, 50.

The gunman's friend and two others, who witnesses told police were with the gunman earlier in the day, were later arrested.

Blackshirts to protest outside court

A MILITANT group of fathers will conduct a mock trial of the Chief Judge of the Family Court in Melbourne on Tuesday in protest at what they claim is a decline in family values.

The Blackshirts pressure group hope the demonstration outside the Family Court in William Street will highlight what they say is the corruption of moral standards by Chief Judge Alistair Nicholson.

An effigy of Mr Nicholson, who retires this month, is to be tried and then burned.

Spokesman John Abbott said Mr Nicholson was guilty of undermining and corrupting the moral standards of marriage, the family and the children of Australia.

He said the group had invited Mr Nicholson to attend but he had refused

this group make me sick but at least they have fallen to protesting the court rather than what they were doing

HA could be cause bracks was going to have them prosicuted for it:D

The attorney general has ordered his prosecutors in New York to seek the death penalty in a dozen cases where they had recommended against it.
The Brooklyn case is coming to occupy a central place in discussion of the Justice Department's death penalty policy. Some lawyers cite it as an example when they argue that Mr. Ashcroft is forcing prosecutors to seek death in cases they view as weak.

In April, Mr. Ashcroft rejected the no-death recommendation in the Brooklyn case despite indications that the government's main witness insisted for two days that he could not identify the killer. A prosecution document obtained by The New York Times shows that government investigators caught that witness in a lie last summer when he acknowledged that he had embellished an important detail of his account.

In the past, former federal prosecutors say, questions about the credibility of a central witness have often been considered reasons against seeking execution. Federal prosecutors in New York, they say, have argued that they need to take every last precaution to avoid the risk of condemning an innocent person to death.
