Nothing will change under Obama, say Palestinians

Most Palestinians think the election of Barack Obama as US president will have no impact on the chances of a solution to the conflict with Israel, an opinion poll published on Wednesday said.

It found that 57.5 percent of those Palestinians who were questioned thought that Obama's election "will make no difference" from the outgoing US administration in terms of Middle East peace talks with Israel.

The poll reported that 20.2 percent of Palestinians were "more optimistic," 17.7 percent said they were "more pessimistic," and the rest were undecided.

A massive majority of 75.7 percent said they were "not at all satisfied" over the role of the United States in the Middle East peace process, with just 8 percent saying they were happy with Washington as sponsor.

At least they are realistic/

They have plenty of experience with the former, and have now moved to the latter.

Suleiman has lived with violence and hatred all of his life.

He speaks of how Jewish residents of a nearby settlement have seized lands owned by his village and how an Israeli soldier once harassed him while he was harvesting near his home.

"And I asked, 'What are you saying? Speak in Arabic because I do not understand Hebrew.' He took his M-16 rifle and put it on my head and then shoved my head on the front of his jeep," Suleiman said.

Stories of anger and resentment are common in Nablus, where posters praise young militants for attacking Israeli soldiers.

Some young Palestinians throw rocks at Israelis to relieve their indignation.

Sawsan has helped Suleiman find another way.

"(She is taking) Palestinians and helping grow peace among the Palestinians," he said. "She is taking Palestinians who want peace overseas and helping the peace process."

With Sawsan's guidance, Suleiman attended a camp in the United States where, for the first time in his life, he met Israelis his own age.

"I went there and came back with the same feeling that I wanted peace. Now, I want peace even more because I heard the views of those on the other side who also want peace," Suleiman said.

Sawsan Samara is proud to have shown young people like Suleiman that there are options to violence - options that she says bring empowerment and - above all - hope.

"Throwing that rock might make the settler go away at this point, at this moment, but it will not stop the settler from coming back the next day, or an hour later, or coming back with the army even. But, with what he's doing, I think feels the same way that he can actually make the settlers stop forever," Samara said. "Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but maybe in a year or two, or Insha'Allah [if Allah wills], in his lifetime."

But you've been an advocate for non-interference, yet here you seem to feel that the USA should do something? What is this, SAM, have you turned on us suddenly?

And speaking of non-interference, why are you interfering?

They have plenty of experience with the former, and have now moved to the latter.

So does that mean that the Pals will now start feeding and housing either own people for a fuckin' change ....instead of spending all their money on weapons, ammo and explosives????

International activists say they have helped 11 Gaza university students leave the blockaded territory by boat in defiance of Israel.

Ramzi Kysia of the Free Gaza movement said Saturday that the students sailed on the vessel Dignity and reached Cyprus on Friday. He says the students are enrolled at universities in Europe and Canada.

Activists say round 700 students accepted at foreign universities are still stuck in Gaza.

Pointless to make any comments on this.

No, it isn't, SAM.

I'll remind you of your usual tact of non-interference, yet here, with the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, you seem set on interfering. Why?

There are horrid conditions in India that the Indian government won't take care of. Should "we" go into India and fix things? If not, why not?

Interview with the grandchildren of the oldest suicide bomber in Gaza, a grandmother.

Don't need to watch those stupid YouTube thingies ...we all know it's just more Palestinian propaganda bullshit.

If Palestinians wanted a better life, they'd get on with it and build a better life. But they obviously prefer poverty, squalor and hunger ...not to mention being dependent of the Israelis to provide fuel for their generators! Dependent on the very people they claim to hate.

Actually its a video on the children talking about their aspirations. I think that 8 year old will become the President of Palestine. She is already wise beyond her years. Baptism by fire.

So ...what ye're saying is that she's a violent little girl who hates Israelis as much as you do .....and wants to help shoot rockets into Israel and help blow up Israeli citizens.

Yeah, Palestinian aspirations .....SAM-style!

Not at all. Her primary anger is with Arabs who do not fulfill their promises to Palestinians and she wants to meet Ehud Olmert to tell him not to be afraid of the children, which is her reasoning why he is killing them :D

there's a reason behind everything. It is an incredible gift in life to be able to identify that reason quickly and accurately. A gift which i must say sam, you are laking

Yeah, the reason being that some people still believe in mythology over science.

What a pack of blinkered, almost blind Jew-apologists we have here!

Amazing that people so impaired, can say with apparent sincerity that they "understand" why Palestinians are killing each other, it's not because they're being oppressed at all, it's because they want to live like that. Just like all the Germans believed about Jews living in ghettos, what an amazing historical parallel. But of course, WWI/WWII hasn't finished (yet, or ever).

Yeah, the reason being that some people still believe in mythology over science.

Are you one of those? I chose science when science is necessary and mythology for a bed time story.

It's amazing because the only claims that Jews killed each other in the ghettos comes from a rascist man/woman/other.

No, it comes from Holocaust survivors, its amazing how little Jews appear to know about the Holocaust.

Letter to the editor , by Prof. Israel Shahak, published on 19 May 1989 in Kol Ha'ir, Jerusalem:
quote:
I disagree with the opinion of Haim Baram that the Israeli education system has managed to instil a 'Holocaust awareness' in its pupils (Kol Ha'Ir 12.5.89). It's not an awareness of the Holocaust but rather the myth of the Holocaust or even a falsification of the Holocaust (in the sense that 'a half-truth is worse than a lie') which has been instilled here.

As one who himself lived through the Holocaust, first in Warsaw then in Bergen-Belsen, I will give an immediate example of the total ignorance of daily life during the Holocaust: In the Warsaw ghetto, even during the period of the first massive extermination (June to October 1943), one saw almost no German soldiers.

Nearly all the work of administration, and later the work of transporting hundreds of thousands of Jews to their deaths, was carried out by Jewish collaborators.

Before the outbreak of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising (the planning of which only started after the extermination of the majority of Jews in Warsaw), the Jewish underground killed, with perfect justification, every Jewish collaborator they could find. If they had not done so the Uprising could never have started.

The majority of the population of the Ghetto hated the collaborators far more than the German Nazis. Every Jewish child was taught, and this saved the lives of some them "if you enter a square from which there are three exits, one guarded by a German SS man, one by an Ukrainian and one by a Jewish policeman, then you should first try to pass the German, and then maybe the Ukrainian, but never the Jew".

One of my own strongest memories is that, when the Jewish underground killed a despicable collaborator close to my home at the end of February 1943, I danced and sang around the still bleeding corpse together with the other children.* I still do not regret this, quite the contrary.

It is clear that such events were not exclusive to the Jews, the entire Nazi success in easy and continued rule over millions of people stemmed from the subtle and diabolical use of collaborators, who did most of the dirty work for them. But does anybody now know about this?

This, and not what is 'instilled' was the reality.

Of the Yad Vashem - (official state Holocaust museum in Jerusalem - Ed.) - theatre, I do not wish to speak at all. It, and its vile exploiting, such as honouring South Africa collaborators with the Nazis are truly beneath contempt.

Therefore, if we knew a little of the truth about the Holocaust, we would at least understand (with or without agreeing) why the Palestinians are now eliminating their collaborators. That is the only means they have if they wish to continue to struggle against our limb-breaking regime.

Kind regards,

Israel Shahak.

Jewish Ghetto Police (German: Jüdische Ghetto-Polizei, Jüdischer Ordnungsdienst), also known as the Jewish Order Service and referred by the Jews as the Jewish Police, were the auxiliary police units organized in the Jewish ghettos by the local Judenrat councils under German Nazi orders.[1] The Jewish Order Service was also active in some of the Nazi concentration camps.

Members of the Judendienstordnung did not have official uniforms (often having just an armband) and were not allowed to carry firearms. They were used by the Germans primarily for securing the deportation of other Jews to the concentration camps.

How popular do you think they were? I have also seen a first person account of a Jewish collaborator who put his wife and daughter on such a train. But he cared too much for his own life to join them.

Two resistance organizations, the Jewish Military Union (Żydowski Związek Wojskowy, ŻZW) and the ŻOB took control of the Ghetto. They built dozens of fighting posts and executed individuals who collaborated with the Germans, including Jewish Police officers, members of German sponsored Zagiew organization and Gestapo agents (like Dr Alfred Nossig).[14] The ŻOB established a prison to hold and execute traitors and collaborators.[15] Józef Szeryński, the former head of the Jewish Police, committed suicide.[16]
