News from Australia - Goanna Girl Battles Giant Lizard

A large but surprisingly tame goanna, a monitor lizard known for sharp teeth and a tendency to bite when aroused, apparently smelled food and wandered into a restaurant in Bega in the hills of SE NSW, to forage. It didn't seem scared of the human diners at all.

People started screaming, a diner jumped up on her chair, and a brave French waitress from Normandy came to the rescue, grabbing the thing by the tail and dragging it out of the restaurant, heaving it off the restaurant's deck into the nearby shrubbery. She says she wasn't scared but was excited. She says that she likes lizards.

If she wasn't pulling it backwards so rapidly across a polished floor where it couldn't get traction, it might have turned back on her and bitten her.
