Multiple terror attacks in Mumbai

black friday?
the victorian bushfires?

A disaster yes but i would hardly compare it to this, i know a fire crew were lost which is sad but it was no where near 100 people and 200 injured

Ah yes, I remember that day, I was in South Bombay, we heard the blasts and saw the smoke. The cops and army came out and we walked home. Started mid morning and reached evening. Weird day, trying to get past lanes where cops and rioters were attacking each other, without getting shot.

Didn't bother to read this thread. Just a wild guess... Sam blames jooos and Americans for this?
amazingly no, but only because post 25 (which was hers) got deleted after she mentioned something about the CIA.
due to asgaurds vigilance the thread has remained on topic.

It's the Amercian Joo Indian Marsupial Pigmi Marisan crossbread Venusians that....

Oh, I moved from Sydney this week. a bit buzzed now.internet cafe pcbuttons half-glued to oneanther....

Some sad news, the rabbi, his wife, two children and housekeeper were found dead. Its not certain whether they died from the siege of the terrorists or when the military broke in with explosives.

They are also saying that the majority of the dead are Indian not foreigners which is very sad and unexpected. Was the Rabbi an Indian as well?

Seems to me that the Western media is trying to use this event for the war on terror bull. So far only a few Americans were reported dead, so it looks more like an Indian insider political problem with a little foreigner hatred undertone....

No idea, this is all the Indian intelligence has given out from their interrogation of one of the captured men. Also, it seems that some of the men have been living in the Taj for some time and had a command center there. A British accent would be an excellent cover since mostly foreign tourists stay there [at 5000-10,000 a day, who else?]. Plus they may have infiltrated the service staff and have cached weapons inside the Taj itself.

well what I was going to say is that this feels like it is an act of trying to get India into a war against Al-Quida, it feels to me like this was done by intelligences of other nations to get India to participate in the war against muslim insurgency more.

They'll have to take a number

We have plenty more where those came from

From Yahoo news:

Here are the groups considered the most likely culprits in the Mumbai attacks:

Lashkar-e-Toiba (Army of the Pure), formed in 1990, probably in Afghanistan. It is based near Lahore in Pakistan and is bent on forcing India out of Kashmir. It has also said it wants to restore Islamic rule over India. Indian intelligence sources believe the group has backers within Pakistan's ISI. It also has historic links to both the Taliban and al-Qaeda. India's National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan said in 2006 that Lashkar-e-Toiba is part of the "al-Qaeda compact" and is "as big and as omnipotent" as Osama bin Laden's group.

Jaish-e-Mohammed, which emerged in early 2000 under the leadership of Maulana Masood Azhar, who had been serving time in an Indian jail for Kashmir-related militancy but was released in exchange for Indian passengers on an Indian Airlines jet who had been hijacked to Afghanistan. The group was responsible for an attack on India's parliament in December 2001 that brought India and Pakistan to the brink of war. Jaish-e-Mohammed is believed to have close links to al-Qaeda and bin Laden through a religious school in Karachi.

From New York Times:

WASHINGTON — American intelligence and counterterrorism officials said Friday that there was mounting evidence that a Pakistani militant group based in Kashmir, most likely Lashkar-e-Taiba, was responsible for this week’s deadly attacks in Mumbai.

The officials cautioned that they had reached no firm conclusions about who was responsible for the attacks, or how they were planned and carried out. Nevertheless, they said that evidence gathered in the past two days pointed to a role for Lashkar-e-Taiba or possibly another group based in Kashmir, Jaish-e-Muhammad, which also has a track record of attacks against India.

Mujahideen = warrior

deccan = western india

deccan = dakshin = south
But it seems incorrect that they were from India.

Atleast some of them have been confirmed to be pakistanis or british pakistanis, who also hailed from the same place as where the 7/7 London blasters lived.
a very well planned operation - two American intelligence officers in the hotel were located and killed. There were hardly any people who knew they were not mere tourists.

Shame on the bastards!

My deepest condolences for SAM and all other Indians in sciforums. :( I hope you and your families and friends are alright. It's really a sad tragedy, I hope whoever is responsible will be caught soon!! Whatever the reason is, it's really unacceptable!

My deepest condolences goes also to whoever victimized in this tragedy (tourists, expatriates, and all others that reside in India). I never understand this kind of acts.

A real tragedy, my condolences to all those affected.

Regarding who to blame, Pakistan is always such an easy target. Blaming Pakistan is to actually say that the Pakistan Gov, military planned and help carry out this act. You would of course need some proof for this accusation. There have been many terrorist attacks in Pakistan itself recently, most notably the bombing of the Marriot Hotel in Islamabad, people seem to forget these incidents very quickly.

The attack was well planned and from what I've read weapons and explosives were probably stockpiled in those hotels and other places. And experts have said there must have been support from within the Indian security forces. It was an outrageous attack, there are many questions that need answering and to blame it all on Pakistan is not only nonsensical it is very unhelpful.
