Multiple terror attacks in Mumbai

It is. We call that term Free trade; American govt enters the markets to protect its corporations, I don't understand whats wrong with that? Cant India do the same? but it doesn't because it just doesn't care.

Again, i personally think that India's future can be brightER if this issue is not taken softly.

Rick

No, thats what structural adjustment policies are. They also include spending less on healthcare, food and education in favor of supporting American or European corporations and trading only through select corporations. They also limit what you can produce and export outside of these corporations. You seem to be singularly uneducated in how the US and EU conduct trade. :)

Well forgive me for my economic naivete, I just live in programming world ... so I never took any eco courses seriously. I will at some point may be ... right now i like my song and dance routine.

that question is for SAM ... who is an expert or has encyclopedic knowledge of everything ... ;)

Cops have no weapons [they do carry a lathi, or a stick]. During "emergencies", they get some ancient rifles. But most Indians re brought up in a culture without guns, and cops are probably not even trained to use them [training costs money, guns bullets etc costs money and manpower]. I would say 80% of the cops probably have little or no experience with guns. Thats why they immediately bring in the reserve forces when there is a crisis. Our defense forces are HUGE and much better trained [with the US giving billions to Pakistan, its not an area we can ignore]. Our commandos are trained by the best in the world.

Heh, no problem, I have had 39 years to look into it. And I only got interested in economics because one of my oldest friends [who is an economist] has a parent in the Indian government and we compare notes on politics. Sorry about the pedantry, it comes from being the oldest, lol.

This call just proved that Terrorists were Indian not pakistanis as Indian media is claiming, hell they even blame their flooding and their excessive population on pakistan as well. ;0

I have never met a pakistani who uses this heavy and thick indian accent and uses J where it is suppose to be Z. Pure indian accent.

So I guess I was right when I stated earlier that it wasn't against Western interest but local political skirmish....

I also said somewhere that you don't need to be high tech for effective terror, just a little imagination and willingness. Even big funding is not needed, how much an AK-47 costs? $150 or so...

There is sometihing off here. They said there were two British citizens after "confirming" it with Scotland Yard. Then they abruptly quashed that part of the enquiry. Anyway, whatever it is, I'm sure they will do what they can to defuse the situation. But according to local news, the guys were definitely asking for anyone with American or British passports and herded those people upstairs. I wonder if there is any way to know what the real breakdown of the dead is. How many of the "Indians" hold American and British passports, for instance.

not really, I just saw you vomiting all over this thread as usual. You gross me out:D

That's because you're not used to dissent. I suggest you develop a stronger stomach. Man up, you know, that kind of thing.

Actually, several quarters suggest that it was Pakistan. Why would this be surprising? Because no terrorism has ever come out of Pakistan before? :D

Sam: "There is something off here."

That's true. We're seeing wild speculation about these berserkers: They were "highly trained"; "after Brits and Americans"; "working for Pakistan"; etc etc etc.

They were indescriminate killers, whose motivations merit no validation or expression. Whatever twisted cause their heartless actions may have been intended to advance, there is no benefit in assisting its definition.

Apparently they [British officials] were checking all Indians who were entering the UK over the weekend, and asking them if they had come from Mumbai and if they had relatives there. They were also asking for Indians with British passports at Heathrow.

According to my family, the terrorists were all very young, kids, most of them in their early twenties. What cause could they possibly have?

Their victims show us all we need to know about their cause. Even from an investigative standpoint, their behavior showed irrationality, in terms of whom they were after. The attacks were obviously not very focused, beyond creating chaos in Mumbai's most prestigious district. I just don't think we're barking up the right tree to infer that they represent a coherent cause, and I suspect that the investigation will proceed most efficiently if their irrational motivations are recognized, and if we leave investigators to focus on the less-sensational business of tracking down accomplices without speculating on their affiliations.

Well, actually if we don't know what their motives were then we can't call them "indescriminate" either.

Geez. That's a puzzler. I have no idea. They attacked a Jewish center and call themselves the Deccan Mujaheddin. I wonder what that could mean?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_terrorism

Muslim extremists kill at least 174 people and wound numerous others in a serious of coordinated attacks on India's largest city and financial capital. A group calling itself the Deccan Mujaheddin claims responsibility, however, the government of India suspects Islamic militants based in Pakistan are responsible

I would not call a command center in the hotel room [where the rates range from 5000 to 10,000 USD], infiltration of the hotel staff and disbursement of the cops in various parts of the city through co-ordinated bombings and a three day siege of the most recognisable landmark of Mumbai as incoherent. They had enough weaponry to hold out for 3 days against cops, commandos and the reserve army. Thats not irrational. I don't think underplaying the fact that they were an organised bunch with no intention to escape [if they were masked, no one could have ID'ed them if they merely walked out] is useful.

Or they were simply present in the district in that ratio. Hard to say.

We're getting the cart way out before the horses in speculating on these killers' motives.

You know, it's funny the extent to which you decry the act, but harbour these semi-secret protective feelings towards the terrorists.
