Multiple terror attacks in Mumbai

Guy is clueless.

So what's a country to do? It might consider cross-border raids against terrorist camps or retaliation to pressure the terrorist sponsor to desist. Sometimes it will actually take such action. But can India depend on international support for such self-defense measures or will it then be labeled an aggressor? How much is India willing to risk war with Pakistan even though it has a legitimate casus belli due to covert aggression against it by that neighbor country? And let's not forget that Pakistan has nuclear weapons, a situation which Israel may soon face in regard to Iran.

If India has a problem, they can try Pakistan anytime, I doubt Pakistanis will be shaking in their boots.

Since radical Islamists really believe their own propaganda, however, they tend to minimize their allies and maximize their enemies. You don't want to make 900 million Hindus and additional other Indians, in South Asia and elsewhere, mad at you. There are about as many Hindus and Sikhs as there are Muslims and, as one Indian reader put it, "There is a Hindi saying: One and one makes 11. It is time for India and Israel to become allies. It is a jihad we are both facing."

There are 160+ million Muslims in Pakistan, 150+ million Muslims in Bangladesh and around 150 million Muslims in India (have very high pop. growth). Those 800 million Hindus are divided over caste and other issues. A point to ponder, India's Hindus have been ruled and dominated by foreigners for hundreds of years, Arabs, Turks, Afghans, Mongols, Europeans, the British etc.

Another point, after Iraq, India has faced the highest amount of terrorist attacks (not just by Muslims) - this was reported during the coverage of the Mumbai attacks. What is the reason for that? People need to bloody think.

I can't help but wonder ....how many Indians starved to death or died of easily-cured diseases during this same time period?

And why aren't we mourning them in the same way?

It's too bad Baron Max, Buffalo Roam and TW Scott weren't there with their side arms to show those terrorists what for, huh?

Interestingly, terrorist seldom, if ever, attack armed people. Terrorist always do for the easy targets ...unarmed civilians. Don't you find that somewhat curious?

India and Israel will undoubtedly become strong allies as soon as India catches up with the rest of the world, which it's on the right track to do. They have mutual interests, mutual enemies, and strategic equality.

Ugh I hope not. As a country that fought for independence, it would be a shame to support an active occupier. Besides, look at the Israeli reaction after the siege, they blamed the Indians for being unable to save the rabbi.

But we all know; the Government of Israels moral superiority and ability to provide its citizens freedom while preventing their extremist elements will EASILY out-sell the conscripted corruption of Islamic Governmental justice.

Moral superiority? Israel is a failed apartheid state. It stands for everything Indians oppose as a policy.

India is a western state. The West begins in Morocco and ends in Pakistan. The East begins in Morocco and ends in Pakistan.
I'm joking of course.

The mutual style of governance, and political compatibility will decide this. Islamic nations are the man-out at the prom in the World stage of governments.

Hahahahaha

Thats hilarious. India is a western state. Israel is a state for Jews, it keeps natives in congested prisons while giving citizenship to Jews preferentially, on Palestinian land. Thats not India's philosophy. India has been a faithful supporter of the Palestinian cause since day one. We do business with Israel, like we do with Sudan and the US, and the Burmese junta. But we're not stupid. 80% of the Jews left India when Israel was imposed on the Palestinians, some after 2000 years. The rabbi in the Chabad house, entertained only Jews and Israelis but kept an Indian servant. Israelis are unpopular in India due to their racist attitudes to Indians. So don't be holding out too much hope. :)

I think he does, isnt that what nato did? and wasted billions of $$ and lots of men in those mountains?

No country has ever successfully invaded Afghanistan.
The people living in the mountains are a hardy people. Look at where they live.

When foreign soldiers come here they must feel like they have arrived on another planet.
Who could look at this landscape without the thought coming into one's head.
"I could die here"

One of the objectives will be to cause a crisis in Government, and get a more radical anti-Muslim Government elected.
Peace and stability are no good to terrorists.

Agree, primary goal is to cause long term determent to the economy and stability of a state to breed more terrorist, I think relations between Pakistan and India is specifically targeted in this attack.

Sam,

I don't really understand your attitude or approach; I don't claim to represent India as such to the world, but i was born and raised here (In Delhi right now on a 15 day vacation), Jewish, Islamic , Christian, Hindu, Sikhs and all other religions are equally important to us Indians. The country has been polluted lately by too many hard liners coming in front saying we represent this country; The real leftist Liberal democratic attitude began from India if you ask me, right from the days of Ashoka.

If Israelis were saying that its India's fault, well whats wrong in saying that? Indians are making mockery of themselves by resigning like cowards; people are angry, they need to see an illustration of actions taken, merely resigning only adds fuel to the fire of mistrust amongst people with govt. of India.

We need :
1.) Department of Homeland security like organization
2.) To secure all our borders. (that means no illegal immigrants whatsoever).
3.) To understand that Pakistan is a place riddled with issues on its own, people in govt. who want to help, people who are indifferent and people who have affiliations or loyalties to extremists, a rogue military outfit which considers itself outside of govt and will never follow the orders of an elected government. Therefore by asking stupid things like give us XX individual makes India look stupid and naive.

Is Indian govt. nuts? Give us XX and XX individual ... its like US asking pakistan give us Osama ... is that possible? bah! its a joke; I hope that there is a definitive change for good or towards good in Indian institutions.

Look at what U.S. did after 9/11; Touch wood, any attacks since then? none. I know I have been a stickler on this and that lot of people would not agree with me, but there is a definitive need to de-polarize those places which provide a safe haven for those extremists who don't wanna move forward with anything and just wanna play those do or die games with innocent people.

Perhaps you want us to become a militarist and hegemonistic nation. I would prefer India to be what it is. We have the right perspective on terrorism. Its a crime, and not a priority. It happens what? Once in a year? With a casualty list of a few hundred? Like gang shootings in Mumbai, its not serious enough to waste money on when we have so many bigger problems to solve. How many children died of malnutrition in India this month? Do you know? 35 people died in violence in Iraq today, 240 this month, did it make all media headlines in the world? They were civilians too. Is anyone interested in their stories? What happened to their children and families? What they are going through? Why not?

Make no mistake, it would be great to have an up to date security system and homeland security and all that jazz. But cops in India come from some of the poorest and most marginalised [and uneducated] segments from society. How many middle class parents want a policeman in the family? You get what you are willing to put in. When educated people from healthy middle class societies decide to do their bit for the country, then we will see dividends.

I want us to be stronger than it is, treating terrorism as a crime is a reactive approach, We need to pro-active, ask those people whose relatives have died, is the govt justification enough for them, saying, well this is just a crime by some kooks that we couldnt do anything about?

And what bigger issues are we talking about? I am an Indian who lives in U.S, I don't feel safe coming to India to be honest, I wanted to visit Kashi this time, but my parents and relatives etc are not ready to go with us ...Is any site safe? is any pilgrimage site ever safe, unless we do something about this problem to fix the root of the problem. If I don't feel safe, how can a anyone from US or any other western state ever feel safe to come here? I can't stress how important it is for globalization of economy.

Iraq war bothers you? at least US doesn't shy away from saying we are in a war zone, imagine US being aloof, that only gives these extremists more fuel that hey look we have won the war and no one doesn't do anything. Its like being a pigeon and covering your face when the cat comes ... cant let that happen, not anymore.

Lot of people think that US is out there for oil, well ok so if it is oil, but is that the only reason? we all know that ultimately that if Middle east democracies become well *ahem* democracies first of all and become either pro western or liberal and tolerant towards outside world (not just western but outside their main stream culture) it will be a safe world. I am not saying that that all democracies are like that in Middle east, I understand that lot of economies there are trying hard to be nations, move forward with their developments, but lot of the others have different agenda.
