The plane was flying over the area where the Russian troops are based and are fighting from. This are use to be part of the Ukraine but is now under Russian control. So to answer your question yes the plane was over Russian held land when it was shot down. The only other aircraft shot down were Ukrainian fighters and cargo planes so no Ukrainian missiles had been used to shoot down a Russian plane or have never been used during this war at all.

Contrary to Putin’s previous claims, you don’t go down to your local hardware store and pick up a Buk weapons system on the side along with the training needed to operate the system. There are reports the weapon used has been towed back into Russia where it will likely be dismantled.
Yet another neatly organized provocation by US controlled Ukraine forces. And all the US media has already put blame on Russia without giving a shit about reality or facts or investigations. This is disgusting and whoever gets to the black box first will re-write the recordings to their own political agenda needs.
Oh, and do you have any supporting proofs? No, just your Stalin era paranoia…as previously stated the airliner fell in territory held by Russian irregular forces. They have the black boxes. Modern airliners have more than one black box. The West is urging Russia to open up the crash site to investigation. Thus far, Russia (i.e. Putin) has not responded to that request.
The West does have proofs. It has radar signatures. It has recordings of Russian irregulars and regular forces operating in Eastern Ukraine and Russia. It could identify the specific Buk system used, if Mother Russia would open itself up for inspection. But as I said before, intelligence indicates the system has been moved back in the Russia and is likely being disassembled.
Russian (i.e. Putin) could end this very easily. He could stop supplying arms, men, and food to his irregular forces operating in Eastern Ukraine. He could withdraw his irregular forces from Eastern Ukraine and it would end overnight.

Opened up what site? This plane crashed in Ukraine, Russia has nothing to do with their shit. The Ukrainian forces (under patronage of US) have invaded Donetsk region and have taken over the BUK systems.
In past Ukraine shot down civilian airlines before:
Siberian Airlines Flight SB 1812
October 4, 2001
78 Dead
Shot down by Ukraine S-200
Yes, Ukraine accidentally shot down a Siberian Airlines flight during military training operations. But Mother Russia (AKA Soviet Union) has also shot down civilian airliners in the not too distant past and they it wasn't by accident. They shot down two Korean Airlines airliners loaded with passengers. Donetsk is Ukrainian territory, it's kind of difficult to invade your own territory. This gets to the point of Putin (Russian) taking what isn't his. Ukraine is a free and independent sovereign state, as much as that troubles you and Putin.
Yeah, the airliner crashed in Ukrainian territory. Now remove your Russian irregular and regular forces from the area and independent authorities could get in there and examine the crash site and collect the bodies and return them to their families.
The "independent" authorities will be from NATO controlled countries, who are mostly answering to the vibe set by US to put sanctions on Russia, they have no need for information that might go against their agendas in the region.
You want to remember when Soviet forces accidentally shot down Korean Airline plane (that carried spy equipment)? Fine.
Lets remember the downing of Iranian Civil Boeing in 1988 by US.
In the Russian ambassador's address to the UN he blames the Ukranian government for not warning off commercial aircraft. Seems a bit silly if the Russians don't recognize Ukranian sovereignty over the territory from which the plane was shot down.
Also, shouldn't Malaysian airlines be held responsible for flying over Ukraine in the first place? Seems like a no-brainer to me.
Nothing justifies what Putin has done in Ukraine. This Malaysian flight was off course. It flew north of its planned route to avoid weather. That shouldn't be a death sentence.

This Malaysian flight...flew north of its planned route to avoid weather.
But did they really have to fly over Ukraine? Well, at least they enjoyed a nice smooth ride before they we're blown out of the sky.
