Not really.

Libya has far larger proven reserves, in fact they are the 8th largest in the world with ~46 billion barrels as of 2010. Oil production was 1.7 million barrels per day in 2010

Nigeria has ~37 billion barrels of proven oil reserves as of 2010.
It's currently the largest oil producer in Africa and the 11th largest in the world, averaging 2.4 million barrels per day in 2010.

East Korea has 5 billion barrels of oil, but all fish oil.

Might need a new translation index: "which represents 5 times the religion of Tunisia". Or maybe that means Saudi Arabia.

It's still a good news then, even if it's not going to make Tunisia the "richest" country in Africa.

1.7 million barrels per day? that's much :O

Well even if there are bigger supplies elsewhere in the world, it's always nice to be sitting on a gold mine. Hopefully Tunisians will use their oil wisely and invest the profits in enterprises to generate even bigger profits still. I'm kind of thinking maybe all middle eastern/African countries should be happy to sell their oil quickly rather than conserving it, because if fusion power or some other combination of alternative energies were to become widely available within the next few decades, oil won't be worth nearly as much as it is today.

A billion barrels is pretty much nothing isn't it? I mean, we (USA) use around 20 million a day.

It's six gallons of oil for each person on the planet.

So in one sense, it's not much.

On the other hand, it is worth about $100 Billion dollars, and so it is still has a lot of value to Tunisia.

Now that the USA has access to 4 times as much oil resources via tar sands, maybe we can leave the ME to it's own endeavours?

It's a good job that man made global warming is a myth.;)
Otherwise it would really cause problems.

Making liquid fuels from oil sands requires energy for steam injection and refining. This process generates two to four times the amount of greenhouse gases per barrel of final product as the "production" of conventional oil.[
