is the media biased in its reporting of missing children?
or are the kids all attractive young white girls?

So, how is it in the media with the reporting of missing children? Do they actually make report of all children which are missing?

I do not have television and only access to the digital newspapers at the moment. So enlighten me here please.

Only thing I see is the pictures at the store when you come in and wallk out. It are a lot of pictures and not only white children. There are a whole lot of coloured children among them.

I do not like to call people white or coloured though. In my opinion they are all equal.

For the record, I have to say that I get the impression it are more coloured children than white's who's picture is hanging there.

What the hell happens with these children? Why is there not done more to find them? I am under the impression that it is a wellknown "secret", nobody seems to care enough about it to really do something though. Does this have something to do with the missing children (often) being coloured or is it just lack of caring and interest?

Any thoughts, comments? I am curious...

Banshee:

The police honestly do their best. They jump into action and begin looking for clues and start questioning people and everything, but many times there's just not alot of evidence. That makes it hard to figure out much of anything. Eventually the case dries up, and there's no where left to look. People are told to keep their eyes open, but that's still not easy to do.

I think the fact that there have been alot of young white girls who show up in the national news is because of the strange circumstances surrounding the cases, and television news is really designed as something like a ghost story. Since the audience is mostly middle-america middle-class, they are going to tell the stories which might have the biggest factor of fear in them.

Secondly, I think that girls are more commonly abducted then boys are, so they're more likely to show up on the news.

I'm gonna assume Spooks is from the UK as lately the news (TV) has been reporting missing young, white girls, e.g the Payne child (I forgot her name, oops) and that Milly girl. Children go missing every day all across the globe, why focus on these certain few. Do they think they have a chance of finding them. These two haven't been found yet (I think, haven't watched SkyNews in a while).

Never mind. Spookz is from LA. D'oh. Well, the rest of what I said is true though.

I think you might have got the question wrong .

It should have been ... ' Are attractive young white girls more likely to go missing / get abducted than other children ? '

I don't think it is racial in nature. For a long time you could see childrens' pictures on milk cartons, on flyers, and inserts in newspapers and magizines. I seem to remember that there seemed just as many of each race. All were young though. There was special attention brought to bear on the kids. As there should be...

I'm not sure you understood my point.

I was just pointing out the difference between people claiming that the media is biased when it shows more white abductees ... and people claiming that the actual proportion of white abductees is more.
I think it is the latter.
