Imagine walking into a store one day (Chips R Us?) and being able to shop for your own spiritual/mystical experience brain chip. A whole array of microchips offering experiences ranging from buddhist nirvana to out of body experiences. The hunger for a return to the spirtual basis of human consciousness would be well stoked by then due to the demise of traditional religion. People would probably be willing to pay thousands just for a few hours in a transcendental state. Tastes ofcourse would vary. Conjugation with the Goddess herself. Or half a day spent in Elysian Fields.

For a little more you could even have your spiritual package customized for you. Past life regressions based on the activation of subconscious personality patterns. Premium gnostic apotheosis package complete with lucid dream bonus level! Imagine the possibilities open to us with an electronically-enhanced soul. What heights might we NOT aspire to? What esoteric mysteries of metaphysical truth would unfold before us, providing us the ultimate escape from our mundane little lives?

I already do this on LSD and other hallucinogenic drugs! I don't need to wait for that artifical stuff for I use the real deal.

Bin done. Alastair Reynolds in his 'Revelation Space' series has belief viruses. Also modulated magnetic fields applied to the temporal lobes can induce religious fervour. I even invented the SUBTLE bomb (Synchronous Unipolar Burst Temporal Lobe Epilepsy), a microwave weapon that causes the enemy to invent a new faith. Could go either way though.

I was playing the newer shadowrun games on android and pc recently,dragonfall and shadrowrun returns etc and reliving nostalgia and this reminds me of BTL better than life chip in shadowrun

A "Better Than Life" chip (also called "DreamChips").
