Actually, looking at the roles, I really can't see how the town has much of a chance. For example:
* Mafia - Don, can convert one member to mafia after day 3 (which i forgot to inform the Don of)
So, after the next day, one townsperson becomes mafia, which will reduce to the town to 2 people at the most, and increase the mafia to at least 4. Then, they just vote out whoever they want.
* Mafia - Hit man, once in game kill one extra person, and they die even if the doctor is protecting them
If the hit man does this tonight, then we have max 2 townspeople and at least 3 mafia tomorrow. Again, they vote out whoever they like. And the doctor can't help this one.
* Mafia - Lawyer, stops one person being arested each day, you wont know who is being protected unless they are arested
There is a chance that no arrest will happen today because of this.
* Mafia - Stand over man, stop one person using there powers once a day, you will be PM'ed by me if the stand over man is stoping you from acting (this power doesnt work on the gun shop owner)
If I was mafia, I know what I'd do with this.
* Mafia - Undercover cop, knows who the mafia is but is really towns person. however if a majority of the mafia suspect someone of being the under cover cop and PM me with a name then that person will instantly be eliminated. may have more infomation latter in the game on whos who as well
Probably will be eliminated sooner or later.
* alien - abducts people, for one day and night the person is unable to act and then for a random amount of days they will talk gibberish (i would prefer you to be honest and if your abducted actually make gibberish posts but if you wont do it i will MAKE your posts gibberish)
Can't ultimately affect the outcome of the game.
* Town - police officer, PM's me on who to investigate each day and will tell me if they want this infomation revealed publicly or not
Dead.
* Town - Doctor, protects one person each day same as the lawyer, you wont know who the doc is protecting unless the mafia try to kill them
Still useful right now, but could be killed or arrested.
* Town - Gun shop proprietor, takes out another person when they die
This is a potential problem for the mafia, but the gun shop proprietor may take out a townsperson by accident. Definitely the hitman has more of an advantage, since he knows he is killing a townsperson.
* Town - editor, once in the game can PM me and unalaterally change the arest vote
Whoever this is would have to be damn sure. Best to use the power if the mafia definitely outnumbers town.
* Town - Mayor's informant, CheskiChips DEFINITLY town. Recives tips but may or may not be reliable
Trustworthy, but an obvious target.

Conclusion: I think given the number of mafia compared to number of town, and all the powers the mafia have, it seems to me the mafia is overpowered in this game.
