Depends on what one means by 'aware'.Do you think bacteria are aware?
'Responds to external stimuli' is part of the definition of life.

Good point, I was too open there. I was thinking more of 'aware' of one's own actions of response.Depends on what one means by 'aware'.

Yes, to most of that. But, maybe I should say this is Bowser, so there's a good chance we know what's coming.I am not quite up to speed on who might be connecting a psyche with a religious concept but I can see how it could be assumed there was a connection by some people ** (is that was "spirituality" is about? or is spirituality understood to have no connection to religious beliefs)
Personally anything suggestive of "otherworldliness " in whatever shape or form has no attraction for me .
It is very hard to commandeer meanings of words and so there is never going to be any end to argumentation- a good thing perhaps but frustrating if you have a yen to pin down definitions and lay them out in an orderly manner..
** after all "psyche" is a (central?) term in psychology and yet its derivation reads very explicitly as "soul" from the Greek which is an open invitation to those of a religious persuasion I assume.
Grab a brick with your hand and there you grasp God.
Even the face of Richard Dawkins is God.
If you want to hold God's hand, take the hand of another.
I don't quote Bowser there to belittle him, but as an indication. When I hold up my bowl of oatmeal in the morning,

Solar cells are not aware their jiggling electrons in response to light, so to speak.
It would seem so. At the very least, we are aware of the feeling/idea of "I am."Does "aware" always have to he understood as "aware of something"
