At the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience, scientists discussed the successful extraction of stem cells from the brains of recently deceased individuals. These stem cells are highly generalized cells that can be coaxed into becoming neurons. The cells were successfully extracted up to three days after death. Stem cell researchers hope to find a cure for neurological diseases such as Parkinson's.
