Lava lamp dangerous?

Are lava lamps dangerous? Like if the glass was broken and someone drank it? (hypothetically speaking).

I've always been intrigued by lava lamps but at the same time...I don't want to be close to anything toxic.

Why don't you be the first to try and drink it and tell us the results. Basically it's oil and water.

I understand what you're saying, Pencil. You don't want toxic substances in your living quarters. You're not worried about drinking it. You're worried about possibly being exposed to vapors from the lamp or accidentally being exposed if it breaks.

Exactly, I've burned out a couple of fluorescent bulbs (which can leak out mercury etc) because of the rheostat controller.

Don't worry about Lava Lamp, like I said its oil and water. They are very hard to break also. The wave machine works with water and oil also.

According to Wiki, they are water and wax. The wax is mixed with something heavier to almost neutralize boyancy. Originally, they used carbon tetrachloride, which isn't the healthiest thing to have around. Hopefully, modern versions use something a little less carcinogenic.

Most injuries involving lava lamps involve the thing falling and breaking, and people getting burnt. The stuff inside gets VERY hot.

Lava lamps turn into good water bongs when your done with them. That's about all I know about them. As far as suggestions for decorating your room, you could try a bed or a dresser, or a bookcase(I have one of those).
