My son went to a lecture that talked about these, and other impressive insects, at the Natural History Museum in London last year. It seems the Japanese honey bee has a way to kill them, by surrounding them and "cooking" them to death by overheating. Seems the bees can stand a higher temperature than the hornets. Banzai!

Those types of dangerous pests are becoming invasive. They are horrendous!

Notice the last line in the article...

"God has been unfair to us."

I read that hornets unlike (typical?) bees, don't die after initially stinging someone, as their stingers aren't "barbed," and not pulled from their bodies.

This is frightening news!

I believe that is true of all wasps. After all, for them the sting is a weapon they use routinely, to get the food for the larvae, not just for defending the hive.
