Without commenting on the overall right and wrong of the situation, I have to say that calling the attack an "act of war by Lebanon" is bogus. Lebanon is hardly a functional state and everyone knows that what passes for a national government has zero power in the south.
You can hardly blame the Lebanese people for not being strong enough to keep Hezbollah from having such a position of strength within Lebanon, when it's being aided and financed by Syria and Iran, two huge countries with the publicly stated goal of destroying Israel.
It is a difficult judgment call to make a military decision that collateral damage among Lebanese civilians and Lebanese infrastructure is necessary in order to protect Israel. We will all fall predictably on both sides of that issue depending on our customary pro- or anti-Israel stances. But Lebanon did not launch this attack, terrorists did. It cannot be used as an excuse to make war on Lebanon indiscriminately. To do so diminishes Israel's moral position.

People would say pakistan can fit in to this in a couple of ways:
1) Pakistan has not done enough for the war on terror, this has enhanced Al-Queda's position and thus given moral support and enhancement to other islamic militants.
2) Pakistan being the only Islamic country with nukes should give a couple to Syria and Iran, and also the technology to make their own versions. This will add ballance to the middleeast through MAD. therefore their will be equal footing when it comes to negotiations.
Right, but Israel is not punishing the citizens of Lebanon, it is trying to reduce an obvious threat by the only means at their disposal.

by the way folks my option1 was actually sarcastic. People state that Pakistan has lost more troops to the war on terror than the US. However we must draw different lines between what the Musharraf wants and what the lower echelons of the Pakistani society want to acheive. Remember that "the General" has had a few assasination attempts his way so it is for his personal benefit that the islamic militants get into line

Scaring people might have worked IN THE DARK AGES, but these days people only fight back harder. You know, the whole "Death Over Slavery" theme? People are willing to fight for their freedom. So trying to spook people into not killing jews kinda backfires. Lebanese will be poorer, and they'll hate Israel even more. Both of these factors create terrorists. In a word, the Israelis has made terrorists day; Funding, help and manpower has just been increased tenfold. People who thought Hizbollah was wrong now take their side. And they will hide and support them, too.
On a sidenote, Israel isn't doing anything the US hasn't done before. They're just following given examples and accepted doctorines.
