i don't think being atheist has ever affected me, other than determining the course and nature of discussions. i'd stand up for myself if the occassion arose, but in Australia christians aren't as numerous or commonplace as in america, perhaps that's why they're more respectful.

As spidergoat said, being an atheist is more acceptable now than it was 30 years ago, probably because of the media coverage and such by prominent outspoken atheists.

Ehhh, nothing special. There have been unbelievers since the beginning of time. I don't see any difference from the time of Jesus until now. Unbelievers are still treated the same way.

Isn't being an Atheist really a religion? Secret, yes. But there. A religion can be loosely translated as a belief. Isn't being and Atheist the belief that there is not religion? Isn't that a religion? There's not really a belief that means there's no belief. If anyone knows anything please reply.

Atheism is the only religion that I am racist against. They like to get retarded claiming they are a non-religion. Atheists aren't non-theists. They're a type of non-theist. The type that believes God doesn't exist.

religion-

a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
2. a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion.
3. the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions.
4. the life or state of a monk, nun, etc.: to enter religion.
5. the practice of religious beliefs; ritual observance of faith.
6. something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience: to make a religion of fighting prejudice.

atheists have one single belief, no god. they're refuting someone's assertion. if someone told you platypi created the universe and you said bullshit, is that your religion? its not quite what no.1 details. despite this, you do have a point that they have a belief. i'd argue agnosticism is non-religious, rather than atheism.

The above leaves room for there to be religious atheists. For example if they have under number 2
common beliefs about the psychology of theists
common beliefs about the perniciousness of religions
common beliefs about epistemology

then this would count.

But I agree an atheist need not be religious.

What do you imagine the difference is between "non-theist" and "atheist", lixluke?

The prefix a- essentially means "non-", except in your bizarre world apparently.

Nontheism (not-theism) is anything that isn't theism.
Atheism (without-diety) is specifically the belief there is no diety.

An atheism by standard definition and historically implies the absence of any diety. Those who live their lives without any deity. A nontheist on the otherhand neither lives as if there was a deity or as if there was none.

Theism is the conclusion that there is diety unless proven otherwise. Atheism is the conclusion that there is no diety unless proven otherwise. Nontheism has come to no conclusion either way.

I dont have a beleif that thers no God... lol... i simply dont have beleifs that ther is a "God".!!!

Then you're not an atheist. Not all non-theists abide by atheism (the belief there is no God).

i was trying to figure out how to label myself, previous i used agnostic but apparently that means you consider knowledge of god to be unknowable. dictionary.com has "a person who denies or disbelieves the existence of a supreme being or beings" for atheist.

clueless disbelieves rather than denies, but he's still an atheist (as am i apparently.)
