Is Judas real?

I was reading [a Jewish author] who proclaimed that Judas was "made-up" to further condemn the Jews and promate anti-semitism in the New Testament. His argument was in the name ... JUDAS = a derivitive of Judaism or JEW. So, it was a JEW who turned Jesus in... and the Jews who killed him according to the NT...

Any thoughts?

Judas Iscariot was just one of the 12 apostles chosen by Jesus, all Jews. If he was made up, so were the others. I think they would have noticed if the 12th man was merely symbolic or entirely fictional. They replaced him with another Jew: Matthias (Acts 1).

Judas delivered Jesus to the Romans, who crucified him. Jesus was killed by the Romans, technically speaking - But Judas was as much one of the Twelve as the others. And they didn't point fingers, except to sin.
