Is it "cool" to be clever?

A recent conference of teachers in the UK just carried a motion that it is shameful that it is no longer (if it ever was) considered cool to be clever and have decided to dub "clever" pupils as "successful" from now on.
A sad indictment on falling educational standards? A commentary on current society?
Is it cool to be smart? Or are smart people just nerds who will never be cool?
Comments?

I dont know, but aren't some of the coolest people actually pretty clever?

Lets try it another way maybe: Is it cool to be so dumb that you dont know your ass is on fire until the sprinkler system kicks in?

Its cool to be a nerd now!

Who cares if it is cool or not. A few more years and the cool kids will be packing the clever kids groceries.

I think being clever is cool. It means I have a good job and can afford to go do cool stuff like surfing and snowboarding.

Conversely, what 'cool' stuff do stupid people get to do? Watch daytime TV? Not Cool, ....

The people who are both really clever and really cool don't care about such things.

In the U.S. people usually just call it "smart." Smart people have historically never gotten a lot of respect here. Exceptions like Thomas Edison were truly exceptional, and even they were surely the butt of jokes when they were young and only earned respect late in life after changing the world. We're supposed to earn our wealth by "working hard," not by sitting around and thinking.

There was a brief period right after the Russians launched Sputnik in 1957, when being smart was suddenly cool. Everyone believed that the only way to win the Cold War was through science and math. Math majors got dates and didn't get beaten up by the jocks. That lasted for less than twenty years. You could sort of tell that "dumb" was "cool" again when disco music eclipsed progressive rock.

It is cool to be clever because no body likes someone who's as dumb as a box of rocks. But it is NOT cool to be a know it all.

I would too.. but the first one just looks contradictory to me.. so I am like "OMG I got to have that.. that's so hot!" I would partly expect the second girl to wear a shirt like that.

What you're saying you'd expect the 2nd girl to like nerds because she word be compatible with a nerd or in other words the 2nd girl looks like a nerd?

No.. what I am trying to say (though I might fuck this one up, too) is that the second girl looks a little bit more casual and willing to give nice guys a try. The first girl looks like she only has tolerance for tough guys.. the badasses. The fact that she is wearing a shirt that says "I love nerds" is just so contradictory to the impression she gives... hence it's hot as hell (well to me).

The second girl still looks good though.. but the first one blows me away.

ok, back to the question. Let's ignore the fact that the 2nd one is more desirable (even though the 1st one is more provocative on the bed and all). Her tits are too big. Anyway, the question - I read that as well, and I agree with the notion - clever kids have always had that stigma about being teacher's pets and nerds, and losers, but no-one can put down someone who is successful. (oh you're successful, what a loser!) And although being clever and successful don't always go hand in hand..it is usually the case. I think it's a good way of spelling it out to those who can't understand that being clever is not so sad

The first one looks like a slut, it seems theres nothing more to her than having sex. The second looks like a nice girl with alot more to offer, and it seems getting her into bed would be alot more of a challenge. Thats far more attractive. Of course, they are just pictures
