Is America (US) ready for a black president?

What do you mean by ready? That they can be elected or that if elected race won't be a problem? If you're asking if they can be elected, I think Obama can. Obama is the most charismatic politician running, by far. Everything he has done so far has made him extremely popular among Democrats, and Democrats have no problem voting for a black man. Since Democrats can win, Obama can win. He's arguably the strongest canidate right now.

The people who wouldn't vote for a black guy because he is black are the people who already vote straight republican tickets. They weren't enough to keep Republicans in control of congress, so by themselves they can't keep Obama out. Given that and Democrats are on the rise and Republicans on the decline, Obama has a very good chance.

We were talking about electable (or not) candidates, did you know that Sir Edmund stuff about Hillary? Fascinating, she'll lie about that, so what more would be in store?

...in October 2006, a spokeswoman for Senator Clinton's re-election campaign explained that she was not in fact named after the mountain climber, stating rather that "It was a sweet family story her mother shared to inspire greatness in her daughter, to great results I might add."

OOO, how horrible, next she might lie and say Saddam had remote control airplanes with anthrax heading to the US NOW!!!! Give me a break.

Absolutely, not of the current batch of candidates though, Condi doesn't have the temperment for it, and Obama's too little known, but is known to be a quite the flaming liberal, so that shouldn't pan out.

Powell could have won I think, but he's not really a "black" candidate, nor is Obama, nor perhaps Rice, I think they're all beige.

Obama is not a "flaming liberal", but to you probably all Democrats are. Obama has great poll numbers, but is inexperienced.

Thats not true. Democrats are just as racist as Republicans, watch, you'll see. If Obama runs, just watch how racist the ads will get and how many Democrats will complain about his race.

If you think racism is about politics then you don't understand what racism really is, it's a religion, it's apolitical, and sure perhaps Republicans run on social issues, but Democrats pass racist laws even if they don't say anything racist in public.

Why would you want someone who is an experienced politician as President?

I think Obama is where the youth in this country is at, but I don't think Obama is going to win the votes of the elite social conservatives.

Democrats did not win the midterms because they were socially liberal, people did not vote for Democrats because they support gay marriage, or want to see a Black president. People voted for Democrats because they wanted to vote on the war.

Sure Barack Obama might have a chance at being elected vice President, I mean after the Bush Admin, the country is so far to the right that it will swing just as sharply to the left as blowback.

I don't however, think Obama will be the one who becomes President, I think it will be Hilary, and I only see it happening due to the fact that the country will be in such a bad divided shape, that any Democrat will have a good chance of beating the Republicans. I mean, Rudy has a good chance, but if you'd vote for Rudy you can just as easily vote for Hilary. I don't think the country can become any more socially conservative than it already is, so I doubt people will vote for a social conservative, I think people want a moderate, and while you might see Barack Obama as a moderate, and maybe he is moderate, I think social conservatives will not vote for Barack or Hilary and will either sit the election out, or vote for McCain or Rudy.

If Democrats win, it will be Barack Obama and Hilary, with Hilary as President and Obama is Vice President. Why would Obama want to be President anyway when he can be Vice President? Maybe thats the plan, maybe hes supposed to be Vice President. I think the country is ready for a Black Vice President right now, and after this war, I think the country will also be ready for a female President, I don't know if it will be Hilary, but Hilary seems to have the political support and fundraising to win.

The KKK sees them all as black, it does not seem to matter what kind of black, if the person has 1% of black genes, they are black according to racists. Hell if a person looks black, they are black, and Rice, Obama and Powell all look black. If you want to be technical and call them brown, go ahead.

Yeah TT, that dates back the "one drop" rule under segregation, which all the more reveals that race is a political phenomenon more than anything.

Hey, that's Hillary, not Hilary. If I may ask, who did you vote for in the last two presidential elections, IceAgeCivilizations?

Hello i'm a black man from Africa and I have something to say. America already has a black female secetary of state in condi rice, what then is the big deal in a vice president or president? Many mayors and governors in America are black. America has to fuckin decide what they want to do; the whole "one leg in and one leg out" is getting stupid. In Europe a black man has a snow balls chance in hell to become governor, at least Europeans know what the fuck they want. Personally I like Al sharpton, the day he dies is the day I die, no point living without him.

I like Sharpton too, but he hurt himself with Tawana Brawley even though i think he really believed her. Plus he does have a good sense of humor.

James Brown would have made a great President and would he revitalised the U.S. in so many ways...too bad he's gone.

Al shapton was at james browns exhibition/funeral here in New York city. Al shapton is always everywhere black people are concerned. He's been on "O" Reilly show many times, and though "O" reilly gives him a though time he is always...Al Shapton(laughs). He really likes black people and genuine on civil rights, you can tell. Is there anybody else similar to the likes of him?
