Amidst the financial wreckage around the world, one government is celebrating.

Watching the global gnashing of teeth, the Islamic Republic of Iran is enjoying the ride.

"We are very happy that America's economy is in jeopardy and they are paying the price for their misdeeds. God is punishing them."

That is the verdict from Ayatollah Jannati, one of the most senior clerics in Iran.

President Ahmadinejad has pronounced on the collapse of global capitalism, and announced that Iranians should stand ready to manage the world.

Sorry, I had to post this, it was just too damn funny.

With one thing I agree - "they are paying the price for their misdeeds".
USA is paying for their war in Iraq billions, and for their mismanaged capitalism - also billions.
Too bad it affects too many honest people.

Run away inflation always corrects itself.

This has happened many times in history and will happen every time that inflation gets out of control.

After the correction, everything will smooth out again.

Those who took unrealistic chances will be the ones who get burnt.

Those who stayed within their means and lived within their income won't be hurt.

Just like a really big casino.

According to Iran.

Allah loves suicide bombing
Allah hates infidels.
Allah loves the Credit Crunch.
Allah hates Western culture.
Allah loves Iran.
Allah hates America.

Doesn't it ever occur to them that their version of God is just a projection of their own likes and dislikes?

No, because their leaders aren't really all that intelligent. All they REALLY care about is maintaining their power (and prestige) over their people.

The world -is- paying the price for American douchebaggery, and that includes Iran. No wonder Iran is the loudest voice to curb oil production to stem the sharp decline in its only source of revenue (other than carpets and dates, that is.)

Is this Iran or the US?

Typical Sam.

Why do you like to pick on the U.S. so much when most of your country consists of people living in severe poverty and conditions which are FAR worse than we have in our country?? I've never seen you answer that...

Am I responsible for your ignorance?

Causes of poverty

Cutbacks in health, education and other vital social services around the world have resulted from structural adjustment policies prescribed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank as conditions for loans and repayment. In addition, developing nation governments are required to open their economies to compete with each other and with more powerful and established industrialized nations. To attract investment, poor countries enter a spiraling race to the bottom to see who can provide lower standards, reduced wages and cheaper resources. This has increased poverty and inequality for most people. It also forms a backbone to what we today call globalization. As a result, it maintains the historic unequal rules of trade.

I'm wondering why Americans who have imposed economic sanctions and stunted Iran's economy since the 1970s [after toppling their democratically elected leader in 1953 and installing a despotic puppet for 25 years] would expect any Iranian to feel good about Americans.

Given the opportunity, do you believe most Iranians would choose to emigrate to the US?

The ones who would choose to have already done so. Iranians have one of the longest running civilisations in the world. Do you really think they have no identity of their own? You should visit Iran, I think you'd be quite surprised at how your government has been lying to you.

The truly ancient Persian civilization is Zoroasterian, not Islamic.

Of course they have an identity, but do they have a standard of living?

Why arent Iranians wealthy like their Saudi brethren?
