at the beginning of women's periods, estrogen takes a nosedive while testosterone temporarily raises to near man levels for about a day or two. this accounts for the increased aggression.

so in other words, men do not like women at this time because they act like men. well boohoo.
 
And also many women get much hornier around then to ;) this is to great determent for the man as most men don't usually have a thing for menstruation:

and then begins the testosterone induced rage.

While a nonscientist may find "well, it's a common urban legend" to be convincing, we might wish some verification if we were actually interested in a rational explanation.

A feminist might note that this is an interesting myth - as you noted, women act like men. While being female is generally seen as detrimental, attempting or inadvertently being male is laughable.

Or maybe I've been reading deconstructionist crap all day. :)

one would logically expect women to “go into heat” but studies show that women on average have more libido during menstruation rather then ovulation. Note that not all women are the same and the effects of the menstrual cycle are varying and cannot be used to define all women in general with a particular sexist trait.

I found a lot of Catholic "natural family planning" sites, no porn though. I think this is one of the few times I've used google without stumbling across porn.

i only meant this part as my own tongue in cheek observation. i tend to talk that way because, i don't know if anyone's noticed, but i'm a raging feminist.

the science of it is that people with higher levels of testosterone display increased aggression, sex drive and other fun things. the social commentary part is that when men do it it's a good thing; when women do it they're a bitch (i don't care, i still think it's fun). so during this 24+ hour period of increased testosterone, men so ignorantly call women bitchy. i suggest this term now be applied to aggressive assertive men.
