Scott Adams doesn't do politics either because they are too locally flavoured. your audience is bigger if you avoid politics.
That said, science politics could be compared to office politics i guess. And Dilbert got famous because of the office life. In fact Scott mentioned that he started focusing on the office aspect because people thought the comic was about that, although in reality at that point in time it wasn't.

You should write a code for comic of the day and offer it for linking in blogs.
That will really increase your visibility.

I started working on my first web comic this week and am making a webpage for it that should be up in a month or so. The comic is called Awkwerd Silence, I'll the first one up when im done with it this week, they are going to be stupid but whatever.
