I just finished off my thesis that's been plaguing my life for the last few months. (it's just an undergrad thesis which no one in the world will recognize because the idea of doing a thesis while an undergrad is so totally absurd)

the downside is that all this random work on a hair-brained idea (my own, in fact -- something about cellular computing and biology inspired genetic-esque programming of computers. i can't really recall right now) has totally put me off the idea of going to grad school.

the upside is that i'll finally be able to get back to doing what i actually care about -- writing software. and taking photos.

but first, i must sleep.

concratulations

Especially on doing that AND running this great site

well done

Sounds interesting. Any chance you plan to show off your thesis on a website or something?

now, gee wiz, I wonder which website he would use, he would have to go through SO much trouble to do so. My gosh...

Plus porfiry have you...er...gotten around to that Media Politics and Power message I sent you?

well done!

What can I say other than that,....
now,...where's that Party? hehehe:p

Well congratulations Pofiry!

Congratulations Porfiry! Sounds like an intersting thesis, maybe you can post it here later, when you have finished sleeping. :)

Sounds like your thesis could be inspiring Porfiry.

In years to come there probably be a whole branch of intelligence systems devoted to your understanding, that's of course if it's suppose to got that way.

As for pictures.... Well I know you've put that site together of Celeb's, if you get to the point of actually taking pictures of models you could have a virtual portfolio, For each of them ;)

As for your software, Keep it sweet, user friendly and well debugged and you'll be fine.

thanks guys,

if i wasn't on vacation at my parents house, i assure you i would get nicely drunk. :)

as i said, the thesis itself probably isn't terribly important. i'm not even sure it's well written. i really only had 2 months to write it (it came to 50 pages, along with 3000 lines of code) and i really didn't want to do it (it's not necessary for my degree).

if you're familiar with programming, the general idea is to extend object-oriented programming by making classes more than just modules that make function calls into each other. Object instances are aware of only themselves and interact with others in the environment at random, much like proteins floating around inside a biological cell. When you place a whole whackload of them in a 'cell' you get some interesting emergent behaviour. you can also throw in membranes at random, so you get arbitrary levels of abstraction (since the membrane is the abstraction mechanism in biology).

it's an interesting idea, but in the process of analyzing it, i've managed to lose any sense of wonder or thrill that i started with. the whole thing seems rather mundane to me now.

I think that's more of a complaint than a question.

...And the road leads on to glory...

Congratulations! :) :) Enjoy your freedom... :)
