I don't know if you are bragging about the fact that the only thing that keeps you from killing people is legal consequences or if you are just trying to make the point that people are not the problem.
Actually, I was saying that it's not personal ownership of big guns or swords that keeps us from dissolving into an anarchic state of murder. The murder rates in the middle ages were like 100x higher than what they are now, for instance, when there was no strong, centralized, legitimate law.
And what I said was:
"...the huge institution set up to discourage most people from killing most people most of the time, and our acknowledgment that they are in charge."
Of course people kill other people. We're not that logical; we have difficulty weighting costs. Regardless, societies that are more cop oriented, have lower crime rates.
People ARE the problem.
