Then I come across for example, a troll post or a flame that I know will throw the thread off track. I delete the post.
Hmmm, you don't delete your own troll posts or flames that throw numerous threads off track? Curious... :scratchin:
You're the dark sith lord, you figure it out.
Members complaining about apparently "arbitrary" moderation ought to realise that sciforums is a big site. No moderator can be expected to read every word written here, or review every post, or even read every thread. Certainly, I do not do so - nor would I want to.
I banned somebody for sexually harassing SAM. Why? Because it is clearly against the site posting guidelines; the member involved quite clearly knew this but went ahead anyway (not to mention that this is a repeat offender who ought to have learnt something by now); I read that particular thread and so noticed the breach; I decided to act on this to send a(nother) message to the particular member concerned and to others who read the thread and might consider doing the same thing in future.
There's no mystery here. There's no grand conspiracy. It's common sense stuff. If I see something clearly in breach of the site rules, I will take action as I see fit. Members can't pretend they don't know what is expected of them. The fact that some get away with things from time to time is just good luck for them. By far the most likely explanation is simply that no moderator has seen their bad behaviour, or decided to act on it. Moreover, chances are that nobody hit the "report" button. I can assure you that I review every complaint sent using the "report" function. If you want to draw something to my attention, that's the way to do it. Don't wait 6 weeks then post a whiney thread complaining how the moderator is biased.
Why?Yeah I guess.
When redarmy makes fun of a member its not the same as when shorty does it, for instance. That can't be avoided, I think.
Woah, that's sickening. It's just a funny joke to most men though. I'm sorry if that statement seems to need a huge yardbrush for its sweeping generalisation but I've seen no one call people on sexism. I've seen people write post upon post about women this and women that, but nothing is ever modded. I do think racism is taken more seriously. What are the people in power going to do about it?
Why?
The same rules should apply to everyone - across the board, with no exceptions.
Anything else is a recipe for disaster.
hmm
i wonder if the bug lady considers me as a harasser of her extreme hotness
funny how noobs never seem to persevere with the mods
back in the day the community were the intellects and mods the retards
its flipped now
guess that is a good thing
the definition of arbitrary. you caught yourself in a logical fallacy.
