In short astronomers have been measuring how fast the universe is expanding and they have been getting a difference in results, this difference is called the "Hubble tension."

This is important because calculations are based on a lot of theory going back to Einstein, continued tension has raised the question of whether community is missing something and new physics is required to solve it.

Webb has taken measurements from 10 galaxies using three different methods and the results (pretty much) agree according to the paper.

From the paper "These numbers are consistent with the current standard Lambda CDM model, without the need for the inclusion of additional new physics."
