"Honor Killing" family members

Not for that. But it depends on what they did. If it's something really bad, then they deserve it, don't they?

What do you think of "honor killing"; where a muslim family member (usually female) is killed if they dishonor their family.

This last Jan. , 2 teenage girls were murdered by their father because the girls were hanging out with non-muslims : http://www.unitedamericancommittee.org/press01_05_08.htm

Did they deserve death for that ?

Do you think honor killing is ethical ?

Would just like to say that Islam does not condone honour killings. There is no justification for honour killings in Islam – it has been condemned by Muslim scholars the World over. I feel your opening post is misleading and demeaning to Muslims and the Islamic faith.

I have to agree with Norse. He didn't say how bad, merely that if it were bad enough.

If I found out that my father killed all of my siblings, I'd not hesitate to kill him out of hand. Or, if I found out that my brother were guilty of conducting horrific medical experiments on babies, I'd probably kill him too.

That said, however, most common day crimes wouldn't move my hand to do much more than assist in his arrest and prosecution.

It's like suicide bombers - not all muslims are terrorists, but it seems like all terrorists these days are muslim.

How can this question even be considered? It's a barbaric practice which even within its boundaries of its own fucked-up thinking is hypocritical. Why is it that if men 'dishonour the family' they don't face death? Why does a family own the rights to its members anyway? If a woman is over eighteen, surely she should be able to opt out of the primitive traditions of her culture. As Ghost pointed out - honour killings are not a part of Islam.

Discussion and weazel words unnecessary: It's barbaric. I think it gpt less to do with religion than with backward tribal people who appear civilized because they live in houses instead of tents or caves.

We are not living in a world of scholars.

Honor killing is committed disproportionately by certain Muslims and is defended by the Muslims who commit it on religious grounds. That they are not scholars is not really relevant.

There are some possibly parallel sorts of evil among Christians, involving child abuse in the name of "driving the devil out of the child" or the like. It can be severe, even to death, but is not usually deliberate single-event murder. It seems different to me, psychologically, in that social shame does not seem to predominate in the motives.

You would kill anyone who did that, not just a family member. Those would not be "honor killings".

Correct. I was stating this in response to Bells response to his comments.

I should have included the trail of comments to make things clearer.

Are you for real?:bugeye:

The answer to your question is a great, big, fat no.

This would make them something other than "honor killings".

On the question of "honor killings" I would have to say no, .
