Hi Folks

Thank-you Dave. Looking for somewhere for some gentle back-and-forth on issues of the day. Have I stumbled on somewhere this still happens?
There is some of that here, yes.

(I see you have also opened an account on science forums . com. That forum was almost entirely populated by cranks and nutcases when I gave up on it about a year ago. I have found the . net version has some proper scientists on it and is far more rigorous in its moderation.)

Well spotted! I'm stuck at home due to a respiratory infection (not Covid) and have been a bit bored. Someone on another site mentioned here and scienceforums.com. It seems your assessment of Science Forums is accurate looking at the trends in activity and the choice of topics. The most amusing aspect is how the couple of regulars still left almost invariably dismiss other contributors (and even each other) as cranks. Pots and kettles.

Yes, well, it must be admitted that crank watching is part of the pleasure of these forums. That applies here too, as you may be realising. But on that .com site, the very tolerant moderation policy has led to an infestation of nutters that has driven almost everyone else away. It's where they end up after being banned here. And the moderation here is very mild.

Had a look at that site and came across your introductory post there.

The last post in that thread is hilarious

(perhaps indicative of the time some of them have on their hands over there)

If you go digging you will also find an amusing exchange between river, masquerading as "current (geddit?) and me, about homeopathy and water. That is the last time I ever interacted with river. But it's probably bad form to discuss another site on this one, so I'll stop there. ;)
