Somehow I missed this back in January, but I remember you being a big supporter so: Quorn!

Though it won't bother me, I wonder how the average American will feel when they learn that the product's “mycoprotein” is actually a fungus that is grown in large vats (...soylent green is people!), and not a true mushroom. :D

Potatoes.

Sure they were new. They were imported to Europe by I think Sir Francis Drake around 1577. Prior to that potatoes didn't exist in Europe.

If the same thing were tried now potatoes would not pass the food safety inspection tests since potatotes contain a poison when raw.

Well, certainly we would be able to find a different method of transporting them. I mean, a potatote could easily be replaced by, oh I dunno, a box? :D
