Yes. If you look at a million cases, you can find ten cases of ANYTHING.
Here in our family, my wife is taller than I am. One of our kids will be shorter than I am, the other will be taller than she is (assuming they follow the standard WHO curves.) There's a lot more to how tall someone's children are than how tall their mother is.
Pardon how tall are you, and the one shorter the you how old is the one.

5'9" and he's only about 3" tall so far. (We are going by WHO curves.)
Sure. Friend of mine has a son who is 16 and is already 6'4"; his mother is 5'7".
