Hackers declare war on Scientology

The war between the techies and scientologists goes back much longer than this new war, but I don't remember much about the specifics. I vaguely recall something associated with fidonet in wikipedia once, but I can't remember any keywords that properly jar the rest of my memories. I vaguely remember one of the users having a ridiculously huge signature.

What a bunch of f*ck*ng nerds those hackers :bugeye::mad:

Why do you say that? Are you a scientologist???

I despise Scientology so anyone that's against them is a hero - but just for that one thing alone since I usually despise all hackers also.

Along similar lines, if some hacker caused the president of Iran's helicopter to crash killing him, I'd consider that hacker a hero too.

So anyone that doesn't agree with your set of values should be killled or censored is that correct?

Although I'll be one of them who disagree with their methods, but Scientology needs to be carefully watched. Particularly due to its methods. For those that choose to argue that watching/monitoring scientology is restricting religion, then stopping frisking muslims on the basis of their religion.

Probably not, but what he (probably) means is that Scientology got the same medicine, how they deal with dissenters. read up on how they treat critics or former members...

No, that's not correct!! It's a BIG stretch for you to even think that, much less to state it publicly. :bugeye:

There are TONS of people in this world who do not share my set of values and I've NEVER avocated such a thing toward them - but I WILL make an exception in this case. So what?

That's exactly why the Hackers in question are pulling a wrong move. Their DoS's and spam is potential blocking communications that are already being tapped. This means two things though, on the one hand the Scientologist's aren't going to get caught doing anything because they can't and the hackers are obviously traced through the taps to keep watch on the Scientologist's.

In essence the stunt's just going to cause a media sensation, this is why the press likes hackers like that... it's not that they agree with what they do, it's because the press can make money for publishing stories about what they do.

The press doesn't give two squit's about the hackers opinion.

The incentive of profit at work.
So the Scientologists are already being tapped ? and are monitored as a cult or a religion ?
Speaking of which, aren't cults dangerous?

Transcript: Anonymous threatens Scientology

The threat exploits fears of terrorism, plays on themes familiar to terroristic movements:

Hello, leaders of Scientology. We are Anonymous. Over the years, we have been watching you: your campaigns of misinformation, your suppression of dissent, your litigious nature; all of these things have caught our eye. With the leakage of your latest propaganda video into mainstream circulation, the extent of your malign influence over those who have come to trust you as leaders has been made clear to us. Anonymous has therefore decided that your organization should be destroyed. For the good of your followers, for the good of mankind, and for our own enjoyment, we shall proceed to expel you from the internet, and systematically dismantle the Church of Scientology in its present form.

We recognize you as serious opponents, and do not expect our campaign to be completed in a short time frame. However, you will not prevail forever against the angry masses of the body politic. Your choice of methods, your hypocrisy, and the general lawlessness of your organization have sounded its death knell. You have nowhere to hide, because we are everywhere. You have no recourse in attack, because for each of us that falls, ten more will take his place.

We are cognizant of the many who may decry our methods as parallel to those of the Church of Scientology, those who espouse the obvious truth that your organization will use the actions of Anonymous as an example of the persecution of which you have, for so long, warned your followers—this is acceptable to Anonymous. In fact, it is encouraged. We are your SPs.

Over time, as we begin to merge our pulse with that of your church, the suppression of your followers will become increasingly difficult to maintain. Believers will become aware that salvation needn't come at the expense of their livelihood. They will become aware that the stress and the frustration that they feel is not due to us, but a source much closer to them. Yes, we are SPs, but the sum of suppression we could ever muster is eclipsed by that of your own RTC.

Knowledge is free.

We are Anonymous.

We are legion.

We do not forgive.

We do not forget.

Expect us.

people who categorize others with stereotypes don't get my respect either...

besides: according to the Federal Administrative Court of Germany scientology is a profit seeking organisation not a religion, so i don't give a shit about them.

I couldnt care less if i get your respect or not. Its not up to the government to decide what is religion and what is not. If some people want to become scientologists then they should be able to do so and practice their religion without any attacks on their sites and resources.

So you wouldn't have a problem with hackers going after profit seeking organizations like, say, Exxon or Citibank or McDonald's.

Do you generally refer to the Federal Court of Germany when making ethical decisions?

Its not up to the government to decide what is religion and what is not.

Sure it is, after all they give the taxexempt status. A pedophile could declare his sexual deprivation as religion...

After all the hackers could declare that theirs is a religion with the ultimate goal of getting salvation by destroying Scientology.... :)

i agree with Syzygys

and i think those corporations proviede legitimate products and services for the money you pay without having to sign legal waivers...

i just said i don't care if someone wants to throw his money out of the window and believe that xenu disposed of a intergalatical surplus population, killing then using h-bombs in volcanoes, thus creating some sort of souls, that where forced and brainwashed in 3d cinemas. but such musn't be suprised if other people think he's an idiot or become part of a concept of a enemy of someone...
