gnosticism~?

gnosticism is considered heresy by the xian church, is it not.
you might be lucky, but most xians on this forum are not that fundamental.
btw I'm an atheist.

where are all the gnostic thinkers at? :D

Can you give a brief summary of Gnosticism for me? I've hear bits and pieces, but not sure which elements you consider central. Thanks :)

Philip K. Dick is the most entertaining recent gnostic. His "The Divine Invasion" is my favorite (not by most PKD fans however). VALIS is also good. Heck, everything PKD wrote is good.

For an exposition of the dangers of gnosticism (secular gnosticism mostly) Eric Voegelin is unsurpassed.

Yo,

"I am the silence that is incomprehensible
and the idea whose remembrance is frequent.
I am the voice whose sound is manifold
and the word whose appearance is multiple.
I am the utterance of my name."

and:

"For I am knowledge and ignorance.
I am shame and boldness.
I am shameless; I am ashamed.
I am strength and I am fear.
I am war and peace.
Give heed to me.
I am the one who is disgraced and the great one."

Why do you ask divine sapience?

Ahem.

Muhlenberg: odd. Its a link to a great book my Dad passed on to me a few years ago. "The Gnostic Gospels" by Elaine Pagels.

here's the direct link: The Gnostic Gospels at Amazon.com

It gets into not only the Gospels themselves, but the possible changes that would have occured had those gospels become a part of the church.
