Giant Algae?

Someone told me about a huge mutant algae organism 200 feet long at the bottom of some lake in Guatemala. I'm kind of sceptical, but it sounds totally amazing. Anybody know anything about this freak of nature?

Yeah, kinda. But it's the kind of thing I would find really appealing were it true.

Kelp and all other seaweeds are technically algae.

There is a forest of some sort of tree that really is only one tree. A single ancestrial tree sent out runners and now this single plant covers many acers.

about that algae thing..are you sure you aren't confusing it with the giant mycelium that is growing underground in the Amazon Forest (at least i think that's where i read it was growing)..the thing is supposed to be acres and acres long and wide (all underground) whoa...that's one big shroom!!
