Scientists at P&G have sequenced the fungus that grows on the skin of 50-90% of individuals, causing dandruff and other skin conditions like eczema.
The genome sequence of the fungus, Malassezia globosa, revealed the presence of mating-type genes, providing an indication that Malassezia may be capable of sex, a new finding where this organism is concerned. This may enable it to avoid dandruff and scalp treatments.
