Recent work in virology indicates that retroviruses could be the major driver of evolution...responsible for such things as human brain development, emotions, monogamy and reproduction. Retroviruses made the changes at random and natural selection decided which variants worked and which failed.
Now evolution makes even more sense! Retroviruses could speed biological change...and problably does. What an interesting idea!
