The officials in the Congo will imediately get into action. I wathed a program just a few days ago, and they do such an excellent effort, even though many still get hunted today. If it wasn't for the congo troups, they would be extinct. So you can cross your fingers, it's better that they are known to exist, than go unnoticed, only for poachers to discover their existence.

The science guys were shown the gorillas by local hunters familiar with them.

"Discovered" by Western scientists is not the same thing thing as being "discovered" by humanity in general, of the the poaching or any other kind.
