If you feel you have a personal connection with God (or Xenu) what you may have is dopamine D4 receptor gene (DRD4) polymorphism.

Someday soon we will be able to quickly and quietly DNA test all populations of people in the world. Of course we will eventually find that certain genetically inherited gene sequences are the reason some of us believe in Xenu and some of us don't.

interesting, and there may be relationship between D4 receptor gene expression and religious belief/atheism, but,
how do you explain then (via genetics) all those who have been theistic and then become atheistic (or stopped believing), or vice versa - not believed and then "found" religion?

furthermore, how does that explain the negative correlation between religious belief and GDP/standard of living?

I don't think genetics can be the sole factor in determining presence or absence of religious belief. I think the correlation with one's parents belief system must be very high.
