Different Arabic versions of the Qur'an

My Muslim friend says the Qur'an has never been changed - not one diacritical dot (although I was under the assumption these dots weren't originally there?) Anyway, nothing has been changed.
So, I know this is from a crap-website yet I thought to myself. Well if they are willing to publish the material for someone to look up the original source than that says something. I tried to do this but didn't have much success. So I was wondering: This website appears to show to different textual variants of the Qur’an. Is this common? If not than why are there two variations?

Thanks
