Deleted posts.

Would it be much of a problem for moderators who delete posts to insert in place of the post a short explanation as to why it's been deleted? - whether it be length or excessive swearing or whatever. There have been countless times where I've been reading a thread and suddenly can't follow what's happened because of a deleted post. If putting in a short blurb is too much trouble, maybe just 'so-and-so's post deleted' so that readers know that the following post is probably not going to make much sense.

If this subject has been raised before, sorry.

More often than not posts are deleted by the people who wrote them. Mods aren't to blame for everything.

Hadn't thought of that Porf, sorry, but it looks as though Xev has deleted on in the Ethics forum from a thread about abortion because she quoted the rules for posting in her reply.

Nevertheless, is it too much to indicate a deletion by a mod when one does occur? I just kind of find it frustrating when reading. Don't worry if no one wants to do it; it's just a suggestion - I'm possibly the only one it's bothering.

Normally when I delete a post I do put in a reason. However, you can tell who deleted the post because the mod's name will show up.

CC,

If the post is edited then you can see who has edited. If the post itself is deleted it simply disappears. May be, the Admin/SuperMod/Mods(?) can see the deleted posts.

I can see it, can't you? How odd. I had no idea that members couldn't see the deleted post marker.

Thanks everneo, I thought I was going nuts. I can see where the post has been edited by a mod, but a completely deleted post doesn't have any sign of it being there. Where should we be looking?

It seems, you mod kids are able to see the un-censored version with Parental Guidance.!!!

I'm just hoping to see a 'Post Deleted' marker of some kind so that when I read the next reply and it doesn't seem to be following the topic I know it's probably relating to something that's been deleted. I've read some really weird threads - sometimes it looks like one person is answering his own posts over and over, like he's talking to a ghost.

Cheers.
Teri.

I always do that.

I have also encountered some ghost-talkers. Instead of deleting the post itself, it would be fine to delete the contents of the post, like what James does. A brief reason would suffice.

I always appreciate seeing some sort of acknowledgement that an amendment has been made - I've been reading over a few whilst we're going through this exchange, but not everyone does it. I was just hoping to possibly have everyone do it as a courtesy to the reader.

I'm begining to feel like I'm nagging. For the record - I appreciate and thank those who do make a note of a deletion, and I'm making a request to those who don't to start doing it themselves.

Cheers

Actually everneo, some of those 'ghost talkers' have been quite amusing, but I get really curious as to what was deleted.

Cheers
