Corona Virus 2019-nCoV

I live with an Iranian asylum seeker (34yo), and have done so for about 2 years. I rent him a room in my apartment. I am in the high to very high risk category. I am a pensioner.
His family are currently well but in the epicenter of the Iranian outbreak.
So he is a very worried man.
He works and is expecting to loose his job soon due to the pandemic.
No employment means no rent.
My income is secured by the Government.
So about 3 days ago we had a sit down meeting to discuss all things related.
I had my tablet translator and he had his IPhone translator ( for the big words)

What we realized is that the chances of getting infected if one of us got infected were close to 100% and that it is impossible to prevent when sharing communal space ( lounge, kitchen, laundry, bathroom, toilet etc...)

So he is worried that I will force him to leave so that I can avoid infection from him ( IF) by self isolating in my own apartment.
I said that there is no way to tell who infected who so forget about that.
I can not afford to have him leave as it would mean I would have to surrender the apartment or get someone else.
It is a crisis situation and I suggested we may expect other people joining us seeking emergency shelter ( room for 2 more as a last resort) and as long as the landlord is satisfied we are in it together.

So,
It's a situation that we have to accept that we both will become infected at some point in time. We have to accept that as a high possibility and there is absolutely no point to walking on eggshells, disinfecting the apartment every time, one of us so much as blinks.
So, we started working out how to survive infection, looked at the stats etc and came to an agreement for a longer term solution.
The safest solution is to simply practice good hygiene at home, keep the anxiety levels down and relax at home ( sanctuary ) when at home. Take good care when out side and that's it...
Accept the reality and then relax and got on with it...
Now, 3 days later everything is cool, and much more relaxed at home.
btw the symptoms of anxiety are similar to this virus in many ways and can lead to vulnerability due to exhaustion alone... so reducing anxiety is very important.

Agreed , to your last statement .

As well , eat the best Quality Food you can .

Do you think the current UK approach to containment is a wise approach?

From an exchange with a Trump supporter on another forum:

3/13 - People will start spending again when the media finds it's next crisis to bloviate about. Today is Friday the 13th. I predict this will be but a memory by the first week in April.
3/13 - In three weeks I believe they'll move on to something else and it will soon be forgotten.
3/14 - If you think the markets are reacting to [Trump's confusing press conference] you're just being silly. What they're reacting to is the hyped up media coverage that has everyone running for cover.
3/14 - Bottom line for me is I've seen this before...it's 2009 all over again.
3/14 - Any of this sound familiar? This [H1N1] was the last time this type of thing got blown out of proportion.
3/14 - When this covid-19 scare has crashed the world's economies and you've nothing to haul in your truck I hope you can eat your values.
3/15 - This is far bigger than H1N1 and I have my RN wife to help. Yesterday on my way home i started to feel strange...headachey.

Nothing like actually getting sick to make even a Trump supporter decide that perhaps it should be taken seriously.

I am actually attempting to avoid getting into Trumpitics at the moment. Mainly because we have a similar version here at home minus the lack of morality and cowardice that Trump displays. oops! Damn hard to avoid.. but also because it invariably leads to the last few words of this post.

Problem is much the same with climate change issue. Take it seriously and you are scaring people and are an alarmist. Not take it seriously and you are a denialist who is afraid of the alarmist propaganda... Can't win either way.
But as you so rightly stated, this all changes when they finally need to deal with the lack of sound leadership and have to pay a high price for the incompetence they decided to elect.

The biggest problem though is that all those level headed so called alarmists have to suffer because of it and all they can do is say:
"I told you so".

Italy many patients died on the hospital corridor, not getting chance for treatment,
when patient panic, they die easier.
is that true?

  • President Donald Trump reportedly tried to poach German scientists working on a cure for the coronavirus so he could secure exclusive rights to a potential vaccine for the US only.

  • Newspaper WELT am Sonntag reported that Trump's administration had offered large sums of cash to Germany-based biotech company CureVac to secure rights for the vaccine work, "but only for the USA."

  • The German government is battling back, offering financial incentives to the company to remain in Germany.

  • Karl Lauterbach, a senior German politician and professor of epidemiology, said in response to the report: "The exclusive sale of a possible vaccine to the USA must be prevented by all means. Capitalism has limits."

Except capitalism doesn't have limits. That's just some bullshit it's ruthlessly dishonest apologists spew. Capitalism is an abomination.

One upside of Covid 19 is that Americans have demonstrated that they are actually capable of taking slightly unusual and somewhat drastic measures when necessary. Perhaps they'll someday acknowledge that this so-called "political party," with an army of at least 60 million, poses a genuine existential threat and that similarly drastic measures might be called for in dealing with such.

Edit: Better still, perhaps the rest of the planet will acknowledge... Nah. I probably oughn't go there.

Will covid virus spread thru swimming pool water?
It is not thought that it could, no, due to the chemicals used to keep the water fairly bug-free. But in the UK we’re being reminded to shower before you get in, and after you get out.

ASX has taken another dive and closed 9.5 points down. Almost the biggest fall on record. ( $165 billion wiped.)

Wall Street opens in about 7 hours I think...
FTSE currently 6-7% lower, and I would expect the Dow to wipe off all the recoveries made on Friday, possibly with a bit more taken off as well. A c.10% drop would keep it in its general trend relative to other indices. But if the others rally at all between now and opening, who knows.
