Congratulations America - you got the president you deserve

I saw police letting those people in, and removing barriers. I saw police giving “inserectionists” guided tours of the Whitehouse.
I heard Trump instruct his supporters to march peacefully and patriotically to the Whitehouse.
I heard that Trump requested 10,000 national guards at the possibility of trouble, to Nancy Pelosi, which she refused.

One of the great things about Court transcripts is that you get to read exactly what was said in Court by the very same people indicted for their crimes on that day. Unfortunately, what they admitted in Court does not coincide with their public talking points and propaganda you appear to be gobbling up.

I don’t think that Trump is far right leaning on social issues, tbh. He seems more moderate from a philosophical perspective but from a fiscal viewpoint, I don’t see him pandering to the religious right with regards to public education. I can’t speak to Vance though - he’s sort of a wild card, I don’t know much about him. I think he’s smart etc but he may be more right leaning than Trump.

I think that the country should try to unify more, as the US is facing some big challenges.

This time round, we shouldn't so much fear Trump but instead the army of charlatans, grifters and criminals he will unleash on the government and the American people with Project 2025. They are the ones to fear, now.

Yes the flies around the turd.

The world felt better waking up knowing that DJT is going to be at the helm.
There’s only so far you can go without common sense, before Batshit Crazy has to go. They should make that a new medical term just for the progressives.

Certainly, worldly people like Putin, Kim Jung Un and Victor Orban feel a lot better. Not so much anyone else.

I'm assuming you must be extremely wealthy oligarch as those are the only folks happy today. Most business leaders are very upset considering how well the economy is doing under Biden. They know Trump will tank it in no time.

Hard to tank the American economy with the advantages it has in resources and attracting manpower and brainpower from the rest of the world.

Still they say Trump bankrupted his casino so there is that in him.

Just ordered a bumpersticker: A WHOLE LOT OF YOU PEOPLE ARE IDIOTS.

Anyone ever take a deep dive into Amazon customer reviews for fairly mundane products, like, say, knock-off Miele vacuum cleaner bags (cuz the Miele ones are crazy expensive)? You get a bunch of people giving a product five stars because the package arrived in a timely fashion. Seriously. From there it just gets worse. You really have to delve deep to get a sense as to whether or not a freaking off-brand vacuum cleaner bag is any good. With ordinary, everyday items, AI reviews offer deeper insights, cuz actual people seem largely incapable of "using their words*."

I am regularly accused of both overestimating as well as seriously underestimating the cognitive faculties of people generally. Whether it's from the perspective of developmental psychology or education philosophy or neuroscience, it's really hard to get a sense of what the eighty-odd percent in the 85 to 115 range (as far as that goes) ought to be able to do. But giving a product five stars because the fucking package arrived--wtf?!

* You know, those things that supposedly make humans "special" in the eyes of ... well, I'll just leave that part out, and why Chomsky, for all his greatness in other endeavors, was a crap linguist.

Collective guilt then? Everybody in Germany should have been shot because of the death camps. Got it.

If it weren't for those meddling kids and their damn dog and Hitler's worldly ambitions (outside of Germany, that is), Hitler would have gotten away with it. (Though I suspect that in Trump's America, we will be going back to those days where we pretended that the rest of the world--or at least the US--actually had no idea as to what was actually going on.)

I think Bernie Sanders should have the last word.

It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find the working class has abandoned them...

I don't know what to say. It seems like a nuthouse over there.Of course most people don't deserve what they are being served.

Even some of the vilains are to be as much pitied as scorned.

I am not sure if any country could put up with another 4 years (and counting?) of that "administration".I am glad I don't know anyone who lives there personally.

I've been here sin 1951. In that time (on duty with the USN) I slept in 72 countries. (Pen pals in all of them, that's why I know the number.) The extraordinary thing about the US was the amount of STUFF we have. Other than that people are people everywhere. I chased game with some Kalahari Bushmen back in the day, tried to out drink a bar full of Ozzies (guess how that came out. Still like Swan lager, though) and spent a summer on a small island in a Canadian lake with a lunatic bush pilot, a long time friend.)

People is people when it comes right down to it.

For those who wonder why Harris lost...

She was inauthentic. There was nothing wrong with her background but, like many politicians, she tried too hard to portray a lower class background.

There was the word salad speaking style and she either came off as a nervous laughing person not really ready to be President or as a lecturing prosecutor..."we need your campaign contributions today, not tomorrow, not next week...".

She didn't do well when she ran against Biden in the first place and she did do much better than that this time but it wasn't enough.

I think the main reason was just that (apparently) a lot of people (including me) are tired of the "progressive" mindset and policies not just in Washington but involved in many/most local large cities and that's where most people live.

People are tired of crime, drugs, homelessness on the streets and stupid and predictable policies like "defund the police".

People don't want to be given more "free" money that they will pay for in spades later in the form of either inflation or in the debasement of our currency. Please stop "helping" us.:)

America will elect a woman when we get a strong, common sense moderate woman candidate whether that's a Democrat or a Republican.

I won't hold my breath. I suspect that the mere fact that Harris is a women was enough for some people to vote for Trump instead. It was also double-whammy, because there are plenty of Americans who will never vote for a candidate of colour, either.

The Democrats have now tried and failed twice to get a competent, well-qualified woman elected as President. Next time around, they'll have a long hard think before running a woman as the candidate. For them to have another crack at that, the candidate would have to be utterly extraordinary.

The first female President will probably have to be a Republican. But that won't happen until the Republicans reform their party, if they ever do. This is assuming that the Republican party continues to exist far enough into the future.

I'm not a doctor but I'd never advise anyone to hold their breath. Obama was a person of color and he was elected twice. The Republican Party won the popular vote even with a candidate like Trump. It's the Democrats that are possibly becoming irrelevant.
