If there was any self-awareness or introspection, a lot of people should be asking themselves "what did we miss?".

Instead of "You got what you deserve" maybe the reality regarding the OP is "you got what you deserve". Meaning when you ignore the concerns of all the Trump voters, you get the Trump that you deserve.

Learn nothing and you'll just get JD Vance in 4 years.

For me as a Brit I am disappointed. That aside I see this right now as damage limitation.

Throwing him in prison now will just fuel the fire, divide the country and make him even more than a martyr.- I do not think that is a good option.
Try not to precipitate a war number one.
Try not to tank the Economy.
Environmental commitments - not sure where they are.

In terms of inclusion and human rights? This will give huge impetus to what is going on w.r.t. trans, gay rights, abortion - all negative. Also importing Religion into school boards.

Actually that was Harris’s strategy.
She being a low iq person was the perfect candidate to appeal to low iq people.

Like the crowd that stormed the Capitol Building in a huge hissy fit on some January 6th gone by? Those idiots that wouldn't have had a clue what to do if they had temporarily controlled the building (and not, of course, the government)?

In fairness the Independents may have had a good share of no shows. A lot of people who actually vote do so on pocketbook issues. Trump talked crazy word salad but got his believers to accept the notion that tariffs on China would be a solution. Harris needed to put pocketbook issues more front and center in her campaigning and spend less time pointing out Trump as existential threat (however true that might be). Despite fairly optimistic indicators on the economy, a lot of people were staring at housing that doubled in price in their city, and paycheck-eating inflation. Voters tend to lash out at incumbents (or incumbent-adjacent), even when the incumbents had zero control over the relevant economic forces. Harris needed something more visionary than 25K to every new home buyer. If she did have more visionary stuff, she didn't get it out there enough.

As Clinton used to say, it's the economy, stupid.

I saw police letting those people in, and removing barriers. I saw police giving “inserectionists” guided tours of the Whitehouse.
I heard Trump instruct his supporters to march peacefully and patriotically to the Whitehouse.
I heard that Trump requested 10,000 national guards at the possibility of trouble, to Nancy Pelosi, which she refused.

I don’t think that Trump is far right leaning on social issues, tbh. He seems more moderate from a philosophical perspective but from a fiscal viewpoint, I don’t see him pandering to the religious right with regards to public education. I can’t speak to Vance though - he’s sort of a wild card, I don’t know much about him. I think he’s smart etc but he may be more right leaning than Trump.

I think that the country should try to unify more, as the US is facing some big challenges.
