U of Illinois has developed a pigment array to type bacterium much cheaper and faster than before:

This is nifty.
I hope it leads to far more cultures done, and far less "let's try THIS antibiotic on it!" approach caused by the expense of testing and typing.

I very rarely have been to a doc who has ever done a culture on what my infection is-it's standard practice to just throw an antibiotic at it.

I have to wonder if that increases antibiotic resistance-yes, I honestly don't know.
