I strongly recommend this book for everyone, regardless of faith. The author, Dr. Barrie Wilson, is incredibly talented and knowledgable.

For you I wil transcribe the description of the book:

In How Jesus Became Christian, Barrie Wilson confronts one of hte simplest-yet undiscovered-questions of religious history: How did a young, well-respected rabbi become the head of a cult that bore his name, espoused a philosophy he wouldn't wholly understand, and possessed a clear streak of anti-Semitism that has sparked hatred against the generations of Jews who followed him? Vividly re-creating the Hellenistic world into which Jesus was borm, Wilson looks at the rivalry between the "Jesus Movement," informed by Matthew and adhering to Torah worship, and the "Christ movement," headed by Paul, which shunned Torah. Suggesting that Paul's movement was not rooted in teh teachings of the historical Jesus, but a mystical vision of Christ, he further proposes Paul founded the new religion through anti-Semetic propaganda, crushing the Jesus Movement. Sure to be controversial, this is an exciting, well-written popular religious history that cuts straight to the differences between Christianity and Judaism. How Jesus Became Christian looks at how one of the world's great religions prospered and grew at the cost of another and focuses on one of the fundamental questions that goes to teh heart of why millions worship daily; Who was Jesus Christ - a Jew or a Christian?

Barrie Wilson is professor of humanities and religious studies at York University in Toronto. A specialist in early Christian origins, this is his first book intended for a general audience. Building on contemporary critical scholorship, it addresses some of the major puzzles he has identified while teaching biblical studies over a twenty-year period.

What's a Jew?

perhaps another religious label?

Paul founded the new religion through anti-Semetic propaganda, crushing the Jesus Movement

i claim foul!

Both were quite similar in not observing the full tenants of mitzvot (ie... circumcision as being required)

Basically that our actions, not the rituals are what enables

Both movements are enabled by Bible and torah predictions (line of david).

Acts even has variations that contradict if paul even met Jesus but many items on 'christ' (messiah) in which a large amount of 'faith' requisite is required to even observe the Book as credible. (ie.... most is post nicene creed type acceptances)

but when observing what Jesus said, then the contradictions stand out

Matthew 16:20 (Jesus charge.... per bible he told them himself)

Jesus changed the commands (against torah) (called the injil to some) see Mark 10:19 (no homage; be responsible)

Jesus knew another was coming (ie.. a return to some) as he said it many many times over.... john 14:26 and even seems pissed about it john 14:30

what i suggest to any is read the bible in the most literal translation possible and forget the revisions to the addendums, changed and evolving over time.

my opinion

these types of books that adher to religious tenants before the intent of knowledge are often tough to digest

I think.. that Jesus is a Jew.. and somewhere down the line he just said eh, lets change the name.. then the world went down hill after that.. myabe I should try to become a Jew!! I am soooooooooooooooo confused with religions and after a talk with my best friend, it seems that he talks more about Judaism then anything, and the jews are just better..lol.. tehy focus on GOD not jesus.. Id rather focus on what GOD did then jesus

Paul never met Jesus. Paul was around until about 100 years AFTER Jesus.

Well, what is your opinion? Did Paul change Jesus teachings to fit his own personal views? Was Paul's teachings inspired by God or not?

Jesus was neither Jewish nor Christian he was a Mexican Time traveling Terrorist from the year 6052. And don't ask me to prove this just take me on my word like lots of people do from the Bible.

Jesus disciples thought he was a time traveler, preexisting before time. Of course people back then didn't know their ass from a hole in the ground.

Yes, believe that Paul did change Jesus' views and teachings to fit his own agendas.

As for Pauls teachings being inspired by god.... I don't believe in the Judeo-Christian God so my personal answer is no, he was not inspired by God.

I look at this discussion as not a questions of so and so's divinity or agenda, but rather how the religion has changed drastically even over the first 150 years of its existence so much so that it resembles hardly nothing of what Jesus taught.

The authenticity of almost half of Paul’s supposed writings are suspect and it is believed by some scholars that he was a victim of I.D. thievery. I have to concur, mostly likely Paul writings weren’t inspired by God, rather his personal viewpoints about the subject. I doubt Paul thought of his letters as Holy Scripture.
